Penalty most deserved but i like that he was straightforward about it.
'Provocative' and 'shot back' make it seems more adversarial but i appreciate the honesty. Anyways max chasing should make things more fun. |

The rules around significantly lifting etc for yellow flags are by necessity rather more subjective, but is it any different anywhere else? Yellow flag means be careful, waved yellows means slow the heck down, in all of motorsport, doesn't it? This particular incident does rather reinforce my opinion of Verstappen. He's a once-in-a-generation driving talent; he's also arrogant and entitled to an extent that continues to hamper his progress. |

A rather hectic start, as Vettel pushes Hamilton onto the grass and then Hamilton pushing Verstappen onto the grass. VSC is out. I think that's right, it all happened so quickly.

Verstappen has a right rear puncture, looks like he got clipped as he overtook Bottas.

Ferrari splitting the strategy again. They're never quite sure enough to fully commit to something.

This new "information" graphics package from Amazon appears to be garbage. The tire life difference between Hamilton and Vettel was almost twice the life to Vettel but his tires are SHOT with almost no front grip. Now Vettel stays out to give Hamilton the win unless the hard tires are garbage this evening. 22 second stop and when LH stopped, SV had almost 2 seconds in hand, now Vettel has between 16-18 seconds.
For an actual race to develop late the hard tires have to be garbage after 30-45 laps. Otherwise it feels like Vettel will be passed after his stop. If MB got it wrong and too early a stop maybe but they ran long on Friday with hards on Bottas. However that was much cooler than today so. |

That was a longer stop than Leclerc would have wanted.

Well done Ferrari! Didn't think you could lose that one, but I was wrong.

First laps were fun.
With twenty laps to go I thought we had a race on our hands.... sadly it all fizzled out. Not worth getting up at stupid o'clock for. |

Yep the red cars were let down by tactics again. They should have won that one.

This was the Max of old (prior Monace 2018): stubborn, over aggressive and immature. Let's see how long it takes to get the past Monace 2018 Verstappen back.
Ferrari really mastered the skill of throwing away wins. It is absolutely astonishing how good they are at this. *facepalm* And Lewis did what he does best: whine a little on Friday ("three to four stops") to put on a show and make the competitors think Mercedes could be in for a challenge and then simply driving (after T2) flawlessly with the better strategy to win. |

I agree Verstappen didn't seem completely on the ball this race. First there was the penalty stuff and then the first lap there was the entry into T1 where he was clearly the 3rd car, left Hamilton tons of space on the outside, compromising his braking (dirty part of the track) and corner speed which allowed Hamilton to get along side towards T2.
Not very much like Max in top form. On the race, think this race/track will benefit a lot from the 2021 rules. P.S. The squeeze 'm of the track tactics (Vettel vs. Hamilton) which are becoming more frequent under the new "let them race" regime, will one day lead to a massive accident. Then everyone will be appalled and rules will be tightened again. Last edited by Taxi645; 28 Oct 2019 at 08:41. |

....I’d say that’s more a measure of Hamilton’s ability to make the tyres last than ferraris inability to get the strategy correct |

However, you can't just tell drivers to hit the 50mph button when they are doing 200 mph. That would be a recipe for more accidents. So you have to give them some time to slow down. Then they will start exploiting that margin. It needs more analysis, but I still think on balance it could be a better and fairer solution that either safety car or virtual safety car. (Combined with a pit lane closure.) |

What is the record for the most first corner incidents in on season?
Max seems to be channelling his inner Michael Andretti since the summer break. |

I don't know, it seems to work pretty well at Le Mans where they certainly achieve that speed along the Mulsanne Straight. And I am not aware that the use of the speed limiter there, and elsewhere, has lead to any accidents. |
