Japan race next year likely

Champ Car is in talks for a street race in Japan next year. China, and Brazil are also posisble.

So....Great another street race, great a race in China although Brazil would be good.

Many people at Long Beach said they chatted with people from Otaru a city in Japan where the race is likely to be run and apparently a similar location to what Long beach is like.
It's also mentioned on the Autosport website and magazine. So I would rate it as solid.

New races in the US would be better, but I'm sure thety will only undertake to have a Japanese race if they are sure it will be profitable and run on a suitable circuit. Maybe we can start the 'Ide to ChampCar' rumours now?

No, but Ryan Briscoe or Nicky Pastorelli might. See www.crash.net for more details.

Why not use Suzuka?

I think it is good, but that is because if "World Series" is in the title, then there needs to be a "world" aspect to it.

I had heard earlier in the year Champ Car saying it was going to China this year, but that is clearly not the case. Is Korea new, and there was just confusion over the nation?

Yep Ryan has tested at Portland for Conquest...

Yes, not more street races, Suzuka would be awesome. It's owned by Honda though isn't it?
It should happen (opinion) as the Japanese grand prix moves to Fuji which Toyota owns. But then again it maybe kept as the Pacific grand prix.

Well to be honest Knowels there isn't much other choice, and it's also right up Champ Car's street.

True enough.

Be nice to see a proper circuit though, for a change.

Or a super speedway....no, that's nostalgia talking there....

I will make the bold prediction that this will not happen.

Kind of ironic that I italicized 'bold', eh?

Well they want it to. Champ Car does. Otaru does. It should be a good event if it happens.

Wow - it seems to me that Otaru is very determined to host a Champ Car race. I think it'll happen, and it will happen in 2007.

I would like to see a China race materialize as well. But 2006? Not likely.

The realist in me say a race in Japan in 2007 is possible, not likely. And a race in Brazil in 2007 is unlikely - unless some five million dollars drop from the sky.

Looking at the Otaru site it seems like they're very serious about the proposal, unlike a lot of other events that have been announced and then vanish just as quickly. I expect it would be a great event for all involved.

A Brazilian race might work but personally I'd prefer to see the cars race around the A1 Durban track in South Africa.

Can I make a bold prediction?

The race in Japan will be held because of the merger with IRL!

I believe Otaru will happen if there is no merger, if a merger happens for 2007 then I believe that Motegi will be retained. Could be possible to do them both, but not realistic IMO.

I have a Japanese mag about sports cars and sports car racing in Japan whitch I can't read but it's obvious, there are a lot of road racing venues that don't look too bad, judging from the pic's.

Agree with racin and Muzza......this heats up after Joe Chrnelich got fired and was replaced by John Clagett at CC and at a time when Ansan is about to get its third strike, if rumors are to be believed on that count. Chrnelich was assigned to get stuff going over there, so Clagett has to pick up the ball....and the stuff that Chrnelich failed to accomplish, so some of it will be starting over.

There's plenty of time for teh Otaru enthusiasm and positivity to fade out into disinterest and problems, but at this stage it loks encouraging, although I would prefer a road course or oval - the series is unbalanced in favour of street circuits right now.

Given all of the intermingling that has been going on (eg. the IRL people in attendance at LB), hopefully the idea is to have TWO races in Japan along the lines of what Climb suggested.

I wouldn't like two Japanese races. It would mean one less North American race.
