Durango - from track to road

As I told some weeks ago, Durango became this year a real cars builder, and the project of creating a road car with the team name is going on.

Today, just for you all, I took two photos of the prototype, just tho show here in the forum

Durango will build, in their project, 150 cars in 5 years... The price is nearly 140.000 € and the engine [the will chose between BMW and Jaguar] is going to be a 4000cc with 8 cylinders, exactly like the sportscar

The interesting thing is that every car will be different from the other, becouse it will be build O the buyer.. modifying the seat positions.. peddals, steering wheel and everything, exactly like a real racing car...

Final thing... no normal dashboard.. it will be IN the steering wheel, like the F3000

Here are the photos

Are they planning to take this thing racing in FIA N-GT/ACO GT?

The greenhouse belongs on a GTP, not a road car. Aside from that, it's not a bad looking little car.

Lee J: Indeed the greenhouse looks like from a GTP.

You don't have to be sorry, "chacun ses goûts" as we say here...

I said at the TT meeting that I loved the Rafanelli Lola (the red/green one in 2000). PascalLM said it was a "Tromblon" (a tin machine or so)... difficult to gather everybody around one sole car... BTW, the 2003 Bentley was not so nice IMHO, but my wife said it was a nice car... she loved the color !

I quite like it, but it looks a little like a toy car and not 100% for real.

As for the engine. Someone should take that Jaguar engine to Le Mans...

I think it's something to do with there are no air intakes or holes in it, and there is no trim or anything, to break up the colour a bit (the colour i think is the worst bit)

Please Durango, just build your racecar and don't get sidetracked with GT projects that there isn't a market for anyhow. Two things at once usually end up two halfhearted projects.

Well, if they want to race it at LeMans, they _have_ to build road versions, as BMW and Saleen learned, much to their dismay... Obviously they skipped over that part of the rulebook.

The car is real... it runs without problems, it's not just a saloon car....

But I think they're not going to make it racing.... At this moment Durango already races in F.3000, Italian F.Renault and (obviously) FIA SCC... Also GT I think would be too much....

In my opinion the color is really nice, but remember that
1. I'm not a professiona photographer
2. My photocamera is not a professional camera
3. the car is inside the Durango factory, so the lights aren't well placed like in a photo-studio

The color is gold... normal gold..

But, obviously everybody has his own opinion, like it must be

The car looks wonderfull and I love the color. And a big thanks to Fulvio for sharing his pictures with us.

I would not like to see Durango sidetracked with a street car project either. Picchio had a street car project on the table almost 10 years ago, and I don't know if they sold a single car. The color on the Durango street car is HIDEOUS;a color that looks like it came from one of those stupid street racer movies!

Good point dottore, exactly what I'm trying to say. Yes I know it doesn't have anything to do with the prototype, but since Durango isn't GM, and can't just set up another subsidiary for the road car, building and developing it will affect the racing program, and definitely the development of a prototype racecar. Because I frankly don't see Durango having the resources to carry out two such projects at the same time.
And with the supercar market saturated as it is, they may not even sell any.

Yes, it's a Beetle...
In Italy tere's a small endurance championship for them, and Durango helps a small team formed by only handicapped drivers.
In the first race of the season also Clay Regazzoni raced with them...
But the car is not entered as "Durango Team"... we just give them mechanics...
