Do you own a single seater? I thought track days were primarily about driving your own car...

Although, I could see the point of doing track day stuff with showroom stuff, if you're in the market for a car. They might not like it much, though. I doubt you'd be able to rent a single seater for a track day, though - the insurance would probably kill any competitive advantage over a school.

(Wind in your hair? No helmet? I bet they wouldn't allow that anyway.)

You're right, though I think it's a bit chicken & egg.

- No-one buys a single seater trackday car, because it's so hard to find tracktime.
- Organisers don't see the demand, just problems, so don't arrange single-seater sessions

You have all sorts of potential problems:
- Even wider speed differentials
- How do you filter out racers getting a cheap test?

but I think one of the more progressive organisers (like ET or BaT) might be convinced to consider a trial run, especially as both are considering advanced-only days. It's not a big leap from there to consider making one of the sessions single-seater. It might be worth dropping them a line to seed the idea.

BaT already run single-seaters at most events now and there are a few people renting them out. A problem is that the cost of running such a car always seems too much to the unitiated. Like an FF1600 for, say four hours tracktime, you've got to be knocking at a grand.

Some track days will allow single seaters out. Last year we had a race at Donington on a Saturday. In their wisdom they had THURSDAY as an open test day, with Friday as a track day!!
However, some of our (smarter?) competitors missed the Thursday and ran in the track day sessions. (Which makes for a much more convenient weekend)
They also saved a fortune. From memory the track day was £160; the test day £380!!
