GT 90's Revival - What happened?

I remember this series supported the British & French rounds of the FIA GT championship last year. It seems to of dissapeared from the radar for this year. The website for it has not been updated at all. Has it gone for good?

Shame if it has.

It's still going, seems a little bit lower key than last year though:

The info on this years series is a little light on the ground - does anyone know any data on the qualifying, race, entrants?

PS 1 post in 5 years, not bad

In most cases Google is my friend but even that is drawing a blank on any info on Mugello last weekend

EDIT - apparently the two Stealth B6 GT1's were the ones to beat, with a 1-2 after qualifying. In race 1 they lead for 20 mins before the 2nd Stealth retired (transmission) but Krayems stealth won by over 30 seconds. Race 2 - Stealth won again, leading by 400m by the first corner after the rolling start, and by 20 secs after the 1st lap (!). One of their tyres failed 1 lap before the pitstop window so they had to do a full lap on 3 tyres, losing 4 minutes. Eventually, after gaining at 7 seconds a lap wasnt enough to gain them 1st plave for both races; they eventually finished second in race 2.

Apart from that (from here )I am still coming up with nothing.

I think they've made a mistake by not following the FIA GT series around this year. Instead of building on last year's the shaky start, they seem to have managed to reduce grid numbers further.

But for a few unfortunate problems, last year's Silverstone grid could have been much better with a McLaren and Porsche GT1 joining the Lotus GT1 at the sharp end.

Running alongside some pretty low key historic series this year has turned any prospective new entrants away, I reckon. There must still be plenty of these cars sitting around in garages just itching to be driven. It's a real shame - I got into sportscar racing by watching the GT1s in the mid-late 90s. At least I can count myself lucky to have seen the Lotus at Silverstone. Not really sure how the Stealths fit in though, I don't recall them racing in any GT series until this decade.

The entrylist for the 2nd round at the Jim Clark revival in Hockenheim looks more promising.

Wow, no Porsche 911 GT1 so far this year. I thought roumors where two entries. Well roumors says it all... Well 11 pre-entries is better than 6

Just hope Spa has 15+ entries, as I might come as a sort of own birthday pressent

Next round will be at Hockenheim next week and the entry list doesn't look much better except a McLaren GTR driven by C.Glasel.

It has taken the Historic Group C/GTP series almost a decade to attract strong grids.

GT1 era cars are still too recent to have any serious interest from an historic racing perspective, interested parties would more likely run either a Group C/GTP car or current LMP/GT.

It also takes a good few years for cars to be sourced and restored to racing condition.

That's the Gulf Mclaren short tail (#12R) - I did hear a rumour that Lanzantes were sending 2 longtail F1's, but that was a while ago . Hopefully the pics will be better from Hockenheim, as there were hardly any from Mugello

If we are being nostalgic for the recent past, here's a YouTube clip of the opening lap of the '95 LM from a Macca F1, with musical accompaniment from "The King of British Blues" John Mayall.

Just add 2 Ferrari, a 355 and a 550, to the entries and you got them all ! I was very impressed by the GT-TC serie, many interesting cars, from the Porsche 917 Can Am to the Corvette.

Perhaps they meant it was Mclaren chassis #21R (owned by Glasel) not Mclaren chassis #12R (driven by Glasel) -

thanks for the Viper, this is my car !

GT90s Revival should be fantastic series, a unique opportunity to see the nicest GTs raced in GT1/GT2/GT3 in the 90s and that's a shame this historic serial doesn't take off.

Imagine on a starting grid some 911GT1/F40GTE/McLaren F1/Lotus/Viper/Lister/Lambo Diablo/Porsche GT2/Venturi/Marcos/ ...

The organiser SRO promoted a lot the serial over the last year and the web site is not too bad www.http://www.gt90s-revival.com/

Last year's Silverstone event was nice with about 17/18 entries but 911GT1 and McLaren F1 didn't start.

What's happening this year ? 5 / 6 cars on the grid the last races ...

Maybe it's too early but I don't think, see the values GT1s are already classic cars. There are a lot of cars raced here and there in various series and championships which are elligible ( Porsches - Venturis - etc... ), and some cars can only be entered in such events ( GT1s ).

The tyres are a problem as only hard tyres from FIA GT are available for cars using large ones as the McLaren F1 and my Viper has. But this car be solved if everyone uses the same quality thread.

The entry fees are a bit high compared with the ones used in historic racing but much less than in modern GT races. SRO is very professional and it's well organised anyway on great tracks and during interesting meetings.

The organiser want to continue but if for the next races there are again a few cars the serie will be compromised. We have to encourage him.

I think the McLaren and Viper had a great success at Hockenheim, public loves them.

Let's hope the serial will be better soon and allow us to race and the public to see these legends at tracks again.

Passionately,

Florent

PS : if someone has pictures from the Viper at Magny Cours last year or Hockenheim this year, that would make my day!

Flourent Moulin, how did your Viper seem compared to the Mclaren? Was there a comparable perfomance on the straight but the corners were all the Mclarens? Did you speak to the Lanzante guys / C Glasel about the F1 at all, and if you don't mind me asking who prepares your Viper for racing?
