Apparently the Std has been a competition car from new, and is for sale. It'll be Spitfire powered 1300 I guess. and very nicely turned out it is too.

I do wish you hadn't said it was for sale.

Way back in the early 70's i knew someone with a Standard 8 and a Ford engine in it. his dad had an A35 with full Midget running gear. both were fantastic.

Of all the cars racing at Donnington I thought the Standard was the most characterful to me, prob for these 70's reasons.

i was toying with the idea of selling my hillclimb Lola and building a 'replica' of the Standard with a 1500 spitfire drivetrain for the hills.

Dare I ask how much I wonder?
Bound to be a fortune!

ps
Can you run a spitfire engine in a pre 60's racer?

Got in touch with one of the drivers. Internet is great!

Thankfully, no mention of selling it..
And I didn't ask.

Ha!
The engine re-build #3 starts next weekend, a £1200 bill for services, bits to rebuild a further £1500 and prob a £750 slush fund for the parts I've forgotten.

Standard 8 with good body = £3K
Fit all the mods (I've found THE forum for that) £3K

Race the road/hillclimb 8 for £6K ish.

The Lola has lost a lot of 'fun' now.
Closer than ever to selling.

Nostalgia kicks in too, my first 3 cars in my life were all Triumphs, Herald 12/50, Mk1 Spit and a Mk IV Spit, and the Standard 8/10 were the forefathers of those cars.

!
Yes, that is very true and certainly no hillclimb I know does that.

At the tender age of 60 I'm far too old to become the widest backmarker on the track.
Most hillclimbs are 15 feet wide of tatmac not the 5005 feet of Silverstone.

I would get lost.

However, the Series does look really good and I only wish it had come into focus for me 10 years ago.

It seems there is only 1 more round, (Mallory) which is a shame. Were there many rounds before Donington as the website only shows rounds coming up, not ones that have passed?

Some links to photos of past meeting are available in the Gallery
and in the near future, the advert for Mallory will go online
(I am awaiting the artwork)

I personally was unavailable to take picture at Castle Combe and Spa.

What other content would you like HRDC to provide?

There was to be a meeting at Lydden Hill, but this was cancelled for reasons of which I am not fully aware.
I was looking forward to this venue as its great viewing and good for pictures

I was as well as its also local, I believe the reason for not racing are to do with the management of the circuit, or lack of. A long gap now before Mallory, but plenty to be getting on with here and we did have a fairly hectic few months culminating with the big Spa trip

I suspect the gap is more to do with the likes of Oldtimer, Gold Cup, Goodwood and Spa falling in a six week period. Not good if many of your target audience is concentrating on the majors.

Not sure what I will be doing but I am in the UK the Thursday before Mallory Park. If I can organize it and providing the car survives the 6hrs, I may be there.

Woodgood marks a notable gap in the HRDC calendar, which is no bad thing, the loss of Lydden ( or lack of Brands . . nudge nudge!) just makes it wider.

personally I have a 'yoof' to prepare for racing and a glamcab to recommission . . . the more time and less expense I can incur, the better!
