Presumably you mean 5000? Sounds great, I would like to come and watch that. Are you sure it's this w/e? According to the Snett website it is a w/e of Modified Live (whatever that is) and they say there is no timetable yet, which is strange as the calendar states the event takes up the whole w/e and all racing starts at 0900!! Presumably to be a Modified Live entrant part of the attraction is not having a clue what time you are supposed to be where or even wot yr racing?!!! |

Change of subject quickly but thought that some of you on this tea break natter group might be able to help me quickly.
Of all the things to happen a "bullet" of something was thrown up from the track at Snetterton and has hit the windscreen of the 917 dead centre top and about 2" down, and has left a nasty chip with star cracking. Although i have a spare screen, at a thousand pounds i,d prefer not to use it yet if i can save the present one. Please, please, please, does anyone know a REALLY, REALLY good operative who can help stop this going any further. I could buy a repair kit and do it myself but i would sooner leave it to someone who does it 24/7 and really knows their stuff. Will travel, but East Anglian region is preferred. All help greatly received on this matter. |

You see these windscreen repair guys in places like supermarket car parks but like a policeman they are never about when you want one !
I think that Halfords do this as well as most windscreen firms ( yellow pages or google) as to whether one is better than another is anyone's guess. Last edited by GORDON STREETER; 19 Sep 2012 at 08:23. |

Thanks Gordon for quick reply.
Yes, there are these Autoglass people about but i was hoping that there is a really top, ace, magic operative that someone knows who performs miracles. |

FWIW, I've had two large 'star chips' repaired by Autoglass (as seen on the TV adverts). Fabulous result - the repair was invisible and did not degrade during the life of the car (approx 3 years). Good luck.

I dont want to be the bearer of bad news, but when i had a chip on my screen which had began to "star" Autoglass said "ohhh sorry, because it has "stared" we cannot do it...you will need a new screen"... Now I dont know if that was just a ploy to get a new screen or what but just be careful re that. I know that a friend of mine went to Glasweld (in Colchester) and they were very good, told it like it is apparently |

What great people you all are for replying so quickly.
As you know i try to do most work myself as i,m so cynical and miss trusting of so called professionals, and try to keep high standards of preparation in my cars. There are hundreds of companies out there offering these repair services but there might have been just one (or two) that have gone that extra mile in their working standards, especially on such a windscreen. Incedentally Mike, you missed another great evening with FORC on Monday night with famous Porsche driver and engineer Jurgen Barth. |

You learn something every day, don't you? Never heard of that Kirsty album...though I liked her voice. I suspect Zef was being ironic and was actually playing Electric Ladyland, in honour of the anniversary of Jimi Hendrix's death....which in turn I only discovered was yesterday as I read the "on this day in history" bit in the Times, because it happened to be my birthday....and Greta Garbo's apparently, and a little longer ago, Samuel Johnson's..... Here endeth today's history lesson. |

I wonder if Kirsty named it in homage to the brilliant Hendrix. I always remember my old mum, a well educated, well spoken lady (believe it or not although we were very poor and lived on a council estate) watching Hendrix on TV and she must have been in her 60's and enthusing about him and thought he was absolutely incredible, the lady had class.

I fixed the Hazards on the Dayvan, Gordon was correct, there are two flasher units on the vehicle one for indicators one for hazards, they are both standard two pin things available anywhere so not a problem. Now I have a water pump leak on the Blazer that's manifested itself good job it got me home from Donington, I never noticed the temperature rising and oddly enough it only came to light driving home the other night when the car cut out. I thought it was module trouble again as have replaced that about 18 months ago so called the RAC out. However when I checked under the bonnet with the mechanic the Autogas converter which works on the heater circuit and warms the LPG up before converting to gas was a solid block of ice! I had this on a Range Rover once same thing and what happens it also freezes up the control valves so the thing wouldn't even run on petrol. I let it thaw out and managed to drive it home on petrol which was just as well as the RAC man said it was too heavy to tow with his Vito van and would have to call out a truck, wimp! Then he tried to tell me because its a 4 x 4 it will wreck the transmission, I said don't be so silly its a manual trans what difference would it make but he was adamant??

Job done ...... and what a fantastic job. This was a large chip with five star cracks, top dead centre and 2" down. A real caring, very friendly and professional windscreen specialist called Simon from Agriglaze came out from Norwich and did the business. A thousand pound screen has been saved as well as the hassle in bonding a new one in. Turns out that he is the international screen repairer and fitter for 2011. Am i chuffed to bits ............. cannot praise him enough. GT |

Interesting to know that GT I would get him round to me if local although I do have a man and my yank screens are not excessively expensive and available.

Just spent the last two days collecting race cars and dropping some off. Anyway stop of at Wnchester services for a sandwich.I buy sandwich, bottle of Ribena and a Turkish delight. Bloke at the till dont know where he is from says"get a packet of creeeess" What I say!!!. Get a packet of creeesss and you can have it all for £2.99. So I still dont know what a packet of creeess is and then his mate the manager then comes out and says the same thing but much louder.Im still not sure what they are both on about now. Then they both start saying get some creesss and start pointing to the over side of the shop.By this time there is a que and I am just about to say look I just want to pay and have my lunch when across the shop I can see the CRISP counter.Very nice they were too..cest la vie

Iain, I can only sympathise with you in the difficulties you must experience when faced by persons with an imperfect command of the English language....
