Yes John- fantastic racing. Do you remember the VERY wet Martini International for these cars at Silv in 72? From memory, I think John Burton and Dieter Quester(?) won in the Canon cameras B19.

Thanks Andrew, great shots.
This is the less glamorous B8. I had a go or three in one of Dodkin’s fleet. This Steigenburger race at Silverstone was pretty frantic. That yellow B8 stuck up the backside of one of Klaus’s countrymen was driven by a very quick Swede and Phil Buck and myself had a few really laps hard on his tail. I originally thought that it would be a gentlemanly series, but oh no. Everybody was at it hammer and tongs. The B8 was bullet proof except for the gear change. Spa was good too, not much in the way of aerodynamics for the high speed bits. I needed to remember to breathe. Richard’s always promised me a go in his 9 litre March … |

Coincidentally, Andrews shot of a crowded Donington pitlane sent me back to my collection of photo's and all I can say is we must have been standing verrrry close to each other! I was on marshalling on startline that day and decided to kill some time by taking one or two photo's, one of which almost a carbon copy. I also have a superb series of tracking shots, taken from the Hospitality grandstand with a 300mm lens, of a couple of B8's exiting Goddards. |

Will talk nicely to father-in-law. He has the techno-gubbins. I will dig a few out, I have box used for delivering A3 sized photocopier paper absolutely full of photos taken during practices.

Back off a tad there GFM
[QUOTE]Less Glamorous!!!!
Sorry GFM but you hit a raw nerve with your crack about the B8 One of my favourites over here is the Max Brunninghausen 1968 Chevron B8 GT BMW (1998cc) painted in sort of Gulf Porsche colours (mauvey blue/orange). Just a a stunning looking sports car, very fast and equally as pretty as a GT40!! |

Not a Chevron B8 but very close. A superb Harrington photo of the ex-Chris Skeaping / Alan Harvey 1967 B6 GT. Lovely eh?

The body is virtually identical between B6/B8.
The basis was the original B3 GT 1600cc Ford built in 1966 and raced by Digby Martland. The B4 was a prototype BMW engined version, the B6 was the production model of this prototype, still employing BMW power. The B5 was a one -off special with a 2 litre BRM V8 and raced by Willie Green and a B12 was built by Mike Treutlein and raced by John Woolfe at Le Mans. This was F1 powered with a Repco V8 3 litre lump. See the John Woolfe thread for a photo: http://tentenths.com/forum/showthrea...ht=john+woolfe The B8 was a refined version of the B6 with 2 litre BMW power although some were fitted with Ford or Coventry Climax units. all of these had very similar if not identical bodies. They were followed by the lovely B16 in late '69 which was homologated with Ford FVC power. |

No offense to the B8. I quite agree it's still a stunner, but compared to the B16 for example, I think it's less slightly less exotic etc particularly with the BMW four banger compared to the 4-valve stuff that came with the later Chevron. In my humble opinion of course ... no I'm not knocking it. The B8 that I drove was just a super car.

A view to compare the B16 silhouette with the lovely pic of the B6GT above. Brian Redman in the Escuderia Montjuich car at the Silverstone International Trophy meeting 26th April 1970 about to take Woodcote.

Wot's this then? Is it a Ginetta? Have no idea who the driver is, but for some reason the name Jeremy Lord springs to mind. That could just be because there is a Motoring News Championship decal on the cockpit and he was one of the ones to beat.

This is I think Jo Bonnier's Lola, at least it looks like it has his stripes on the nose.

Yes Dave, that is Roger Nathan in the Astra RNR1 - it was purple with twin orange stripes. The Ginetta is I think Ian Richardson but could be John MacDonald and correct, the Bonnier Lola T210. Not sure if it is Jo driving though. Chris Craft?

I think it's Bonnier - at least, he did win that race that day in a Lola T210. He beat John Burton and Brian Redman in the B16s.

Car number 4 - yep, that tallies with what I've got for John Burton in that race. (Although I don't have the relevant programme.)
Going back to the Ginetta - there's only one Ginetta which raced that day, and it was Ian Tee's G16-BRM. Here's the full result, for those who are interested.... 1 Jo Bonnier - Lola T210 2 John Burton - Chevron B16 3 Charles Lucas - Chevron B16 4 Brian Redman - Chevron B16 5 Brian Robinson - Chevron B16 6 Roger Nathan - Astra RNR2 7 Steve Neal - Chevron B8 8 Ian Skailes - Chevron B16 9 John Bridges - Chevron B16 10 Peter Smith - Chevron B8 11 Trevor Twaites - Chevron B8 12 Nick Gold - Porsche 910 13 Ian Tee - Ginetta G16 14 David Farnell - Chevron B6 15 Allen Gibson - Chevron B8 16 Martin Blackie - Chevron B8 17 Jack Paterson - Saturn Ford 18 Tony Evangelisti - Chevron B8 19 James Tangye - Chevron B8 20 John Spero - Porsche Carrera 6 21 Bill Nicholson - MG B HT 22 Gerry Ashmore - Lotus Elan Plus 2 r Ted Bunce - Lotus 47 r Jenny Dell - Nathan BMW r George Silverwood - Chevron B8 r Mike Walton - Ferrari Dino 206 r Tony Lanfranchi - Gropa FVC r Jeremy Richardson - Daren Mk2 na Peter Crossley - Brabham BT8P na David Piper - Nomad Mk2 na John Hine - Piper |

I saw a lovely B16 today - up in Alan Minshaw's race shop at Demon Tweeks in Wrexham. He recently raced it in South Africa and will be out in European historic Group 4 races this summer. It is finished in Gulf Blue and Orange and looks like a 'mini' 917. I have to paint this on a montage for him along with his gorgeous T61 birdcage and some of the saloons he has raced.

How about this sensational Peter Burn photo of John Burton's Canon Chevron B21 in the soaking Martini International at Silverstone in 1972?
John is still racing Chevrons hard - in the European Supersports series. |

This car raced 1972 by Ecurie Bonnier. The chassis-No is HU02, I like to know how drive the car in 1972. But in all lists there are no plate-No! |
