He is correct. They made almost identical statements last year.

No, but that's what Juntos is meaning Both Prologues the car has run at it's been "within a second" of Toyota, yet it hasn't been even remotely close during the one and only event.

Also, if you think about it - they knew the engine was "over 100hp down" during the first prologue and they still thought they were within a second of Toyota? How much of this is optimism, and how much of this is Prost GP attempts to sell sponsorship/cars?

Maybe within a second on high downforce tracks where the hp doesn't matter as much. Or within a second at a short track. Or it could have possibly been that was taken into account on the engine delivering it's potential. But that's the past now and the team hasn't spoken about their times, media outlets and journalists who were there have. I myself will believe outsiders who are watching and recording more than the team based on their past reporting. And that's what we have. At spa it was 1:58, which is about 2-3 seconds off Toyota, now at Ricard it was just 'close', whatever that means. Also DSC is reporting they'll get the latest AER P60C engine at the prologue.

Within a second of Toyota on a high downforce track would put it way ahead of SMP and Rebellion, despite being 100hp down on them.

It's hard being a Ginetta fan because it's hard to believe any of the claims and news around them due to the smoke and mirrors clouding the view.

We all want to believe in impossible things, I suppose, to persuade ourselves that miracles can happen. But motor racing has changed, and Toyota too. They will smash Ginetta and the single Rebellion Oreca without doing a big effort. We can expect a "Super Boring" season ahead.

I'll judge the Ginetta's performance when/if I see it on track.
Until then, I'll just ignore all the 'facts' and performance claims released by the manufacturer, its teams(s), and journalists

They were probably saying that when they were doing qualifying type laps while the others were doing race pace.

Interesting indeed. Some good peddlers in there, particularly Orudzhev who has impressed many with his speed. He and Sarrazin can provide some good feedback by way of comparison with the SMP BR1s.....

No it's not you have to remember that the Dyson family own AER and what is in the back of the Ginetta an AER engine.

If you look at the Sportscar365 article it is reported that Chris Dyson was going to drive the car at the test however business commitments have stopped that from happening.

They did pretty well for their first session but still need to find pace, obviously. Their long-run pace was mostly 1:32-1:36's while Toyota was 1:31-1:34's. I'm sure there's more to come as they learn the car though. Lets see what they do in Wednesday's sessions.

Steph Sarrazin says the Ginetta has great potential, feels like they can challenge Rebellion. Interesting info that he was contacted early on and saw their capability while with SMP.

Brought this up in another thread, but the top speed of the Ginetta at the prologue was very impressive. 305-310+kmh regularly in the speed traps. Not just 20kmh faster than Toyota, but also 5-10kmh faster than Rebellion. And this is supposedly their high-downforce package. They'll be super fast come Fuji and Shanghai and especially Le Mans.
