I wonder if ‘border control’ have access to the police stolen car data?
I’m sure you and Mart are already onto this, but definitely need to check out any Escort stuff coming up on eBay, and any other used parts sites...... |

I think I brought all this on myself . All the Motor Sport Day banners are up and around workshop . Also I went for a drive Wednesday afternoon . Turns out a classic Fiat 500 was stolen in the same way from Henley few weeks ago . All looking like organised classic car theifs . We all better be extra vigilant .

I'm sure the police could track this car throughout the country (they do it with the rest of us) it's just whether they would bother, I think not as they have more important things to do like dancing with climate protesters.

Iain, we can all be wise after the event. I’d like to think my cars are secure, but doubt they are to someone really determined...... |

Yes, unfortunately whatever they want they get. There's something new posted on the FB page I dont understand. Is it related to Iain's Escort?

Although I shared this on my Facebook I didn't realise it was your Escort Ian . But it goes to remind me although for medical reasons I cannot drive for the next six weeks So I let my insurance lapse on the XK , think I will re-insure first thing Monday , good luck with your search for the car anyway and keeping a lookout.

Thanks Eric .Of corse you have given lots of help when I was building the car . I remember at Brands when Dave Brodie drove my Escort and he recognised you . Just back from 180 mile round trip . I got a tip of earlier . Someone saw the car on back of a low loader in Sussex not far from Brighton . I went down and had a good look around the estate . Lots of containers so if it is there it’s well hidden . I had to go . If you don’t you never know . Super Scramble tomorrow at Bicester Heritage . Anyone going ? Me and MG Dave will be attending . 😀

Has anyone ever though of fitting a tracker in their race car ? I know that there is less hiding space in a stripped out race car but it might help, especially in the very early stages if the vehicle is reported stolen within an hour or so.
I have several friends that are forever getting their plant machinery nicked and have normally got it back in a few days. I am aware that they wont work very well (if at all} in a container. Last edited by GORDON STREETER; 23 Jun 2019 at 11:53. |

Trackers are useful but not going to stop the experts. As said above, they are not good at communicating through steel, so anything in a container will be difficult to track. As well as the subscription monitored units, you can get relatively cheap battery powered ones with a sim, where you put an App on your device to track it. Obviously they need a good phone signal to transmit, which can be an issue in some places.
Yes, Tracker’s in or on trailers a good idea, as long as they’re well hidden. You can even get them for bicycles nowadays.... |

Whatever the situation you must react quickly. Tracker or not. A good way to recover a well known car is your personal network -prior to any social media- that's why I believe strongly that Iain will have her back soon. Just hope she won't cross the Channel as you say. After that…

Is it likely to cross the channel? When ours was stolen Ireland was a more likely destination - although in reality I suspect it was broken and sold in bits. It's pretty easy to change the identity of an Escort shell so it could pop up in one piece with a new identity. Our replacement car has a number of identifying stamps in hard to access places that will identify the shell as ours - getting rid of all of those will be impossible without some serious cutting even if you knew where they all were.
As you say contacts can be key in these situations - we got all of our wheels and tyres back after they were stolen as they were offered to someone we know and they knew they were ours. Hope you get the car back as it's a lovely bit of kit. |

I had a van stolen back in the early 70s complete with a grands worth of camera equipment inside. Through a network of mates in the know (read serious big mates) I did get everything (including the van) back. The b******d that did it had flogged the camera gear for £50 to someone in a pub but was "persuaded" to go and get it back. The law were involved in the end and he actually got put in clink as he had a record as long as his arm !

There has been no news I am afraid. I have now got very depressed about this .Finally gave in and told my insurance company and it looks like I did put the Escort on my policy. They are asking for pictures so I am even more depressed now looking back at the build progress.

Really sorry for you, bud. Sounds like it was pros, then, and the fact it was insured is not really much compensation for all the TLC that went into the car build.....

Terrible news. Money doesn't compensate for the Loss of the time and effort. We all recall that effort which you regularly described in the Winter Projects thread.

Likewise. I don't know you Iain (or most of you guys) much at all, but a situation like this demands a happy ending even if it's only a castration without anaesthetic for those reponsible. Still have my fingers crossed.
