peckstar has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
with a quick change to the rules i reckon we could have 850HP V8s running E85 pretty easy

Alco should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
If it is a common engine for all cars they may as well call them sports sedans. Everything old is new again.

Sorry but when was 320km/h ever a thing?

"It’s hoped the new engine can return the sport to the days of 320km/h runs down Bathurst’s Conrod Straigh"

If they revised the diff ratios, we'd see higher top speeds, potentially more overtaking, and less banging away on the rev limiter in 6th, 3/4 of the way down the straights.

More power would reduce reliability, the engines would be more stressed than the current units are. New gearboxes to take the extra load plus revised ratios and probably the requirement for better brakes. Not really a direction for a sport with teams struggling to find a budget and with that likely to become more difficult with reduced tv viewership.

Why 850hp when the V8s are 650hp?

A Nissan GT-R can make 850bhp without cracking the cam covers according to the tuners.. A bit of boost here, some intake & exhaust work there.. maybe not on E85 however..

Imagine the wheelspin on the bedrock control tyres...

GTR, I agree with all you say but an 850hp turbo V6 would instantly make the current spec V8s redundant..........why not a 650hp V6?

would an 850 HP go any faster down conrod, maybe, maybe not it might actually go slower.

Skafe and Crompton were both clear that Supercars will not be going to 850 HP.

Not needed, not worth the cost

On mandated current gearing, the cars cant go any better than 298 km/h because they rat-a-tat-tat against their hard limiters at that roadspeed.

850bhp might get them to vMax quicker.. make them stay on the limiter longer... sounds fun for a turbo... cutting spark or fuel or something when at its maximum load... BOOM!

V8 SUPERCARS CLOSES ON GEN2 TECH GUIDELINES

Reports that V8 Supercars will demonstrate an 850bhp engine appear, however, to be wide of the mark, with confusion having surrounded a separate Hasted project earlier this year.

Depends what the limiter does, if it stops spark, fuel gets dumped into the engine under pressure with no spark, so no bang, and the unburnt fuel may end up out the exhaust thru the turbo.. increased heat.. impeller or seal failure perhaps..

Is this to show the fans it's not the end of the world when V8's are dropped?

Sure seems like it.. A technical tour-de-force..

Wonder what they are reskinning the VF prototype into to house the new hairdryer equipped toy? Camaro? Cruze? Insignia?

Surely it would have to be Camaro.
