The type of cars we are talking about here would be probably changed in some way nearly everytime they went out, I have a car I built in 89 and have changed things on it many times, its basically the same car but its in a totally different guise today than it was a few years ago. I think the insistance of originality and if so what was original is going to be very difficult to implement.

thats ok rob but what about the two sc100 that were both built with bike engines??

but do agree no modern bike engine replicas ie z cars minis but the old s/s regs would out law them any way

i do have a set of the last regulations for special saloons and modsports i will pass them on to the cscc for consideration

A bit like Trigger's sweeping brush, there, Al!

I think the idea is great and look forward to seeing them but how many will be to original spec.? I can see the value in putting Baby Bertha, Mick Hill's Beetle, Hawker's DFVW, the Corvair and the Daf back to original spec. as they were all unique but how many 2 litre Skodas and 5 or 7 litre Capris were there and they all looked similar to each other. Also, of the five unique cars mentioned above would they be driven in anger today. More likely replicas would be built (with of course the mandatory 'improvements' time brings) and you then don't really have a grid of 'period' cars.

the period is so big i think if it looks right and most of the parts used are period then it probably is right

I agree. It's going to be very hard to write definitive regulations for a series like this, but the important thing is to stick to the spirit of the era.

What's probably needed is a respected figure who was involved at the time, and is prepared to be firm but fair when the inevitable disputes occur.

If this takes off, then who knows? Maybe a seventies revival race meeting series, with Special Saloons, Modsports, FF1600, Clubmans, FF2000 and ProdSports and Gp1 Saloons?

Just a thought...

I was waiting for the "originality" question to come up LOL. I think as someone said, all cars will be like "Triggers Broom" by now anyway & it would be almost impossible to police originality but there has to be a pragmatic approach. I am sure that the CSCC will involve knowledgeable people to help come up with a set of regs. Remember, this Mallory event is "by invitation" anyway, so it will be up to the club who races & who doesn't. Also remember, that this race is meant to be an invitation for Modsports & Saloons, Super & Special Saloons & Thundersaloons. Ok a bit of a wide variety but it would be almost impossible to guarantee a decent grid of any one of those types alone. As I said, we have to be pragmatic.

Going forward, if there is enough interest & commitment to get decent sized grids out regularly then we'd have to look carefully at eligibility but I don't think anyone realistically expects Baby Bertha, the Daf V8 or Mick Hill's Beetle to be out very often (if at all) again. They are just too rare and valuable pieces of history. Maybe we can persuade enough original type cars to race just 2 or 3 times a season or maybe it is more likely that any potential new series, if it happens, will be less about strict historical cars but open to original cars as well as more recent builds of cars such as those that might take part in Intermarque or Super GT races or some of the regional race series. Or maybe the CSCC can do 2-3 "original" races and a few seperate race for more modern interpretaion of the Modsports/ Special Saloon idea. We'll see, but that's in the future yet & if the CSCC does one thing, its that it listens to its customers & it is not in the business of putting on series for just a few cars.

Will be going to this. Anymore confirmed other than the first three mentioned? I'd like to see the 'Chimp' in the flesh, or one of the 5L escorts!

Is the guy who rebuilt the Daf seriously letting anyone drive it!? Pretty cool of him if so. (ill drop him an email !)

Invitations to other participants have not been sent out yet - this is scheduled for sometime soon after the Race Retro show but interest has been very good so far with a good number of owners of original cars contacting the club, as well as a few owners of cars that are similar in ethos. We are hoping for a grid of around 18. There is also the chance of a another race later in the season, if there is enough interest & commitment, whilst it is also hoped to hold a regular series next year for cars like this, & similar cars that may not have run in period.

The Daf will not be driven by "anyone", I'm afraid and as far as I know the drive is already allocated!

The Chimp was back and racing as a Chevron B19 in 1977.

Friend of a friend owns Stars & Stripes, the V8 Manta 400 Thundersaloon, saw it in the paddock at Silverstone late last year during the Walter Hayes meeting. Not sure if it's eligible but have given my friend the heads up and the link to this thread. Didn't see it racing but even at tickover the ground shook!
