It was certainly a warm one! Recovery didn't seem to be having the best event, did they? Perhaps they were suffering in the heat as well! As said, that was lucky with the water bowser.
I thought that was the best day of Retro rallycross for some time, with some good scraps throughout the field (and plenty of sideways Escorts). The mixed Super 1600/BMW/Hot Hatch class was also entertaining, I'm so glad that someone saw sense and pooled those classes together. Agreed that it's nice to see some new names on the podium in the Supercars. A well deserved win for Scott, he surely would have won at round 2 if it hadn't been for the puncture, so great to see him win yesterday. I think the result puts Oliver Bennett even closer to Godfrey: I personally think a Championship winner should have won at least one race in the year, so Bennett has got two left to do it! Oh, and nice pictures Bert! |

I'll agree with all comments above, was a great days racing in all the classes. Really enjoyed the retro lads, they were really pushing on at times and certainly not holding anything back. There was just a tad too much contact at times but overall the racing was hard but fair.

Hi Bert, i only seen the tail end if it but it did look like there was contact between Todd and Andy but judging by how little damage there was on the left front of Andy's car it must have been prity light. ]
Just seen on Todd's Facebook page that the MSA have asked there be no pics of the crash or car published so might need to wait a while before anything made public. |

One other thing I should mention - it was good to see that the circuit is still getting some investment even though the planning process is in limbo, the resurfacing of the elbow was very much needed - hopefully the rest of the tarmac sections will be resurfaced soon too. The tarmac very much needs addressing if the circuit is going to be used for anything other than rallycross, it's so abrasive it destroys tyres in no time at all. |

Looks like they are using a Cosworth engine, obviously with their Godfrey link.
Shame, a pukka Zakker car would be awesome! EDit, actually looks like I am wrong, on one of the later pictures there is a Zakspeed engine cover on the motor! Awesome. Does anyone know if they a re trying to make a full replica, side exhaust etc? Couldn't see any cutouts when I looked Monday |

Great shots again Steve. Very many thanks for posting.
Can't remember the last time I'd seen so many Escorts on a rallycross grid - there were more Retro Rallycross cars at Lydden, if you include those on display up the hill, than any other category! Agree there was some superb racing throughout the day and across all the categories. There must have been a large magnet on the armco to the outside of the entrance to Chessons. Lost count of the number of cars hitting it, including John Ward spinning backwards into it at 70mph! Ow!! Todd Crook's incident was a timely reminder that any form of motorsport can be very dangerous. Todd had been racing closely with Guy Corner's Peugeot 206 supernational car most of the day. They did make light contact in Q3 on the exit to North Bend and the rest was physics! Last time I saw one as bad as that it was Brian Betteridge's first (and last) time out in his (then) new MG Metro 6R4. Certainly saw how sturdy Todd's roll cage was and I was mighty relieved to see him moving about inside the car and climbing out unaided. Was lovely to hear Arthur 'The Voice of Rallycross' Debenham on the PA for a while. Plenty of nostalgia throughout the day, though watching some BTRDA rallycross from Pembrey on the TV ('Freesports' on Freeview) with large grids in every category made me wonder 'what if'! Thanks Steve (and Bert) for your photos. Appreciated as always. Cheers, Steve |

Just a quick one for anyone going to Croft for the final round of this year. There has been a change to the format, the Finals for both the Supercars and Supernationals will now be held on the Sunday morning before the British GP action starts. Practice, Heats and Finals for all other series will happen on the Saturday as normal.
See link below for more info: http://www.rallycrossbrx.com/news/re...oss-grand-prix Also, hopefully this works, Todd Crooks massive crash from the Lydden Bank Holiday meeting is now on their facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/BritishRall...5832860824684/ |

Same ticket price for Saturday and sunday, but not the entire final round's worth of races - feels like I'm being short changed. |

I am not sure about the new GP format. As I understand it some drivers could end up with just two heats before having to load their trailers. It surely also means that one mistake or minor shunt early on and you are going home?
It would be interesting to know if drivers have asked for this change to up the competitiveness of the heats or if it is simply a consequence of moving the BRX finals to Sunday. |

Well that was long and windy day...Having arrived at 9.40 am I enjoyed, oh , up to 20 minutes of track action until 1 pm . What newcomers make to the interminable delays which seem endemic to so much British motor sport God only knows . Odd how slickly things run when it's televised live though .....

Yep, seams there was not too much promotion around this year's event as there didn't seam to be as many spectators as there as been in previous years.
As far as the days action was concerned, there was a very noticeable lack of entries this year and with the high rate of mechanical problems forcing people out during the day it felt a bit flat at times. The racing once it go going was prity good, hard but fair i think. Not sure what is going on with the GP next year, as the 2018 final round is at Silverstone and with no mention of a GP in the press release for next year, so who knows. |

Let's face it guys.
For any of you old enough to recall, there really is no such thing as a GP anymore, it lasted a few years at Croft and actually there were some very good Superprix's up there. But that event is long gone, the GP moniker should be removed as it means nothing anymore, so eroded has its importance been in recent years. Hopefully the event can regain some of its past glory, but not if it is at Croft, I can understand why it went there initially, but there now are no remnants of it left. |

Annual trip to Croft and probably my last. Only did the Sunday (superstox world final at Ipswich on Saturday was more temping)and what a let down the gp was. After the 2 British round finals we were down to just 10 supercars which soon became 8, in fact as a whole only 28 cars appeared for the event, events have been cancelled with higher entries.
Also alot of hanging around, wasn't against the new format but with so few cars it didn't work. Maybe if it went to Silverstone it will get more interest from at least this county if not Europe though I like ebbys idea of having it on May bank holiday Monday after the world but wishful thinking I think. |

GP has to be end of season really.
If Lydden have lost WRX that would open up ma date for them Or even Silverstone, but their track record so far has been appalling if pricing is anything to go by. But because it is off season most track could accommodate it. Even mid October is too early for Croft, needs to be later. And needs to either be a Superprix or something else Calling it the GP is simply embarrassing. |
