A Hypothetical Conundrum

Here for you, I present a hypothetical scenario. There is a historical racing circuit, it could a street circuit, it could be a permanent circuit, but this circuit hosts a very historic event. It has run for many years, and is a perennial favorite. However, with more modern and faster racing cars, the circuit has come to a point where it is too confined to be made safe for the top flight class that races there. So, the organizers of the event are left with a choice, either continue the event at its traditional venue but being run by a lesser class, or to move to a new venue to host the event with the same class as previously.

Which is the better choice?

Retain the venue assuming the venue has historical value. Lock the entries for the slower older cars only or implement speed controls for the newer faster cars by physical restriction or event format such as regularity or demonstration laps.

Is this like lime rock? Run the too fast top class. Can't be any more dangerous than le mans or a few others. Or keep a race there with lower (gt) classes at the least.

Mind that there is a poll atop the thread. It makes everyone's life easier to use that, even if you intend to post something more. Thank you.

Retain the venue seems like a no-brainer.

Retain the venue.

A more realistic solution is restrict the cars. Events like the Ring 24 are becoming an issue with GT3 cars becoming so fast. But that didn't happen overnight, and GT3 is meant to be a BoP class. So BoP the cars down to the level that they were at when it was acceptable. If they have to be BoP'd too low for it to become a good event, then change the class.

Exactly what he said. Most of these things are not the black or white issue, there are shades to everything and MUCH more information is needed to discuss.

Is it a track size limit (Lime Rock), track width limit (Macau), top speeds (Lemans or Monza prechicances), width/length/corners/elevation changes (Nurburgring Nordschleife)? Those are all different considerations

Yeah, we're a bit broad, but I understand the debate. In choosing 1 based on current it's venue. Series tend to come and go, especially sportscars stateside.
