As a new manufacturer I wouldn't go anywhere near a team that says they are "very proud" of 2 wins in 6 seasons as a factory team with 4 cars.

Your statement was, "Instead of De Silvestro and Todd Kelly, they should've engaged more exciting talents for 2017"
Maybe they should have, but if noone else was knocking on the door with dollars, then it's just wishful thinking rather than reality. Race teams (excl. Ferrari F1) don't fund themselves. |

Heck I wouldn't be surprised if the budget to run four Nissan Altimas was less than that for running (at the time) two Red Bull Commodores. The Kelly Racing team has always had the air of being overextended and (relatively) under-resourced IMO. By all means they are leagues better equipped than a team like Preston Hire Racing, but are they resourced to the same level as a team like 888? |

From the outside Nissan lacked profile, everything seemed bland and low key. They needed a first class name driver. Back in 2013 they should have gone after a James Courtney type to sell and promote the team to sponsors. Even better thrown a cheque book at Lowndes. Sent from my SM-G900I using Tapatalk |

Interesting article in this weeks Auto Action about Datsun’s involvement in Australian Motorsport from the 1960’s.
I always thought that the Datsun 1000 and 1600’s were raced by privateers. The company didn’t mind spending big dollars to compete in rallying and circuit racing, to promote the Datsun brand. Even going as far bring out a team from Japan along with the Datsun R380A to compete at Surfers Paradise 6 hour race. Go the mighty Datsun! |

Its wonder Infinity don't jump in with the Kelly's. They could use the Nissan V8 which has now had five years of development. Get Nismo to whip up a turbo 3L for 2020 and beyond. Infinity need the exposure and the Q60 would be direct Mustang competitor if people knew it existed.

I guess it could still be more than Altimas, to be honest. |

Their range, much like Mitsubishi's, is basically those horrible jacked up fake four wheel drive things but with the addition of some fairly old sports cars. Which is to say much like Ford's will be, save for the Fiesta and Focus, and much like Holden - if they survive. |

Infiniti have some hot finance deals on at the moment with guaranteed buyback, so there is some confidence in firstly resale values, and secondly, finding a new owner at the end of lease...

Apparently so.
His performances in the enduro cup last year lead to this year's gig. |

Infinity could go racing for less than what Nissan did. Nissan have done the hard yards with engine development which probably cost a bomb. Infinity could do exactly what Ford are doing - pay for cad work to create the panels to drop over the existing Kelly cars, supply company vehicles and bit spending money to top up the sponsors. They could even drop back to two cars to save a bit more.

The only difference is the name. The money comes from the same offices, will still need approval from Japan. That money will need to be invested into homologating a new shape, and developing the aero.
The outcome will be pretty much the same. |

Was budget the reason Nissan pulled the pin anyway?
