Fortunately nowadays the XJS is perceived as a touring car and not a sports car. The two cars really are polar opposites....

As Bob knows, I prefer the C Type to the D, but would happily drive either!

Yes why not? I dont think I would go again for a Sting Ray, the chassis is good and predictable, the 427 just fantastic but the brakes can spoil a weekend.
Sure, the D Type is pure fantasy and a Lister Costin shows clearly its muscles. Not exactly my era but reminds the Dinky Toys I was playing with. What bout a Birdcage, Mike?

Tough choice, Mike. Both the C and the D were designed to win the Le Mans 24 Hour Race and both did of course. The D-Type is a more sophisticated C-Type particularly with regard to aerodynamics to cope with the increasing speeds down the Mulsanne Straight, and the 1955 Long Nose D-Type with the tail fin is my choice. It is funnily enough the tail fin that makes it aesthetically pleasing to Bauble, for if you take a profile picture and blank off the fin it does not look half as nice.
The C-Type to look at is somehow simply pleasing, hard to say why exactly, it just looks 'right'. Love them both.

For you Mike I give you …

Genuine kwoueschion: why do you say Mulsanne straight in English when French say Hunaudières? Mulsanne is the corner at the end of the Hunaudières I think.

This may be the nearest to an answer that you will get; courtesy of Wiki:

Quote:
"When races are not taking place, the Mulsanne Straight is part of the national road system of France. It is called the Ligne Droite des Hunaudières, a part of the route départementale RD 338 (formerly Route Nationale RN 138) in the Sarthe department. The Hunaudières leads to the village of Mulsanne, its English namesake (though the French Route de Mulsanne is the name for the road between Mulsanne and Arnage, with the Indianapolis corner in between)"

Mike to aid you in your predicament I offer the following images to help you to judge which kind of cage you would prefer;

Exhibit A is a Bird Cage, whereas Exhibit B to is a Bird Cage. Now I know it is not easy to spot the difference, but I am sure there are people on this forum who can help you differentiate.
Best of luck.

Right Bob, we dont care actually!
Merci pour l'éclaircissement, Monsieur Harte, strange enough it couldn't find the same explanation in french! Seems that originally Hunaudières was the name of a group of houses to small to be called a village, a lieu-dit.
As bauble says, WTH?

I've read good things about the HSCC at Silverstone. Certainly those pictures seem to do it justice. It seems one of the best Historic Meetings on the calendar

You should put it on your calendar to attend, then.

Good looking engine fo this T16, for sure, but more a F2 than a F1. What could they do with circa 150 hp against the Ferrari when Ascari was at wheel? In spite of a good chassis, Manzon "received" 15" during Q at Francorchamps… Only Behra could do something, a real hero!

That is one hell of a selfie in post 1367.

Nice shot of the Ryan PT22 in 1368.

I've read good things about the HSCC at Silverstone. The finals meeting last year was one of the best I went to all year, The FF1600'2 & FF2000's races were all ssstunning.
