Exactly. It's why my Rover struggles with many of them.

Hmmm, the various Goodwood specials may look lovely but it's not sport eh chap?

There will be platitudes galore for the 'period spec' Minis, Escorts, Fiestas and overpowered Capris from the organisers and commentators though. 😧

I'd say 305+ actually. Historic racing is a celebration not a sport I've been told. Your commentators have added at least one model to your list, the Golf. Or is it a Rabbit escaping really angry animals to be that fast?

[OTopic] I can use fuel injection which would serve to equalize the power issue but since the car never ran with it in period (it was homologated) I've decided to avoid that route. Particularly as the only reason the Rovers were accepted was because I proved that they ran the IDA carb plus other things, in period. I believe A PMG Rover ran FI in 1982 but all it got was more torque not the 15BHP that the system now provides. [/Otopic]

Nonetheless I am not complaining since I've had the opportunity to share race tracks and podiums with some of my heroes and mates (Patrick Watts and Iain Rowley etc.). And we aren't too shabby either!

Sold for around £68k. Not bad for a replica but I'd expect the build cost to be close to that anyway.

Not a bad buy at that! As you say, would likley cost that to have one built (to that standard) by a professional outfit. Hope the new owner uses it all season, and not just once in April.....

I've got a a Capri that is ready to be built up. Just ran some numbers and I don't think it can be done at that standard for less that £68k.

Remember 10 years or so ago when people used to show amazement (offence even!) that a blue oval race car such as an Escort or Capri could be worth as much (or more) than their Jag or whatever- ignoring that to a build any historic car from scratch was going to need the same amount of rare parts and same amount of labour.....

Writing that refurbishing a leather seat of a 404 Pug is the same price as a Jag's MK II one did not bring me many compliments… Nice new avatar, Mike! Congrats.

Dont believe what is said in the adverts before checking! I seem to remember she has -or had- a Grp2 HTP when at Spa and was fitted with three DCNF's (#14). High standard of building. Owner was Paul C-G right?

I stand to be corrected but there never was a MKIII. There were facelifted MKIIs. And I think I know that car, it can run as Grp2 with the DCNFs and if its HTP says so it's the car that ran with MRL. Spice did enter a Capri as a GP2 in the late seventies/early 80s in the TT.

The advert states it's a new build from Ric Wood currently in GP 1,5 form and could be reverted either to Grp1 or Grp2. Raced at Spa Classic 2015 for the first time where I saw it. Are all the infos found in Jeremy Walton's book accurate?
Was Spice's GP2 a 3.0 Essex or the first try with a 2.8 Cologne?

I can't answer that one since my JW book is at home but yes I realise it's a replica. I was simply pointing out that it is based on known facts.

Yes James you're right again tanks for correcting me. Of course it was already Group A sorry for the mistake. About the lightweight shells made I read somewhere that Ford supplied MkII fist as Peter says then MkIII and sometimes compete kits to convert a MkII into a MkIII. Just hope this point hasn't been covered in one of the fifty pages of this fascinating thread!

The Gerry Marshall Triplex Capri was a MkII with the later parts applied when they became available. I believe the early CC cars were the same. In fact I also think I read somewhere that they were originally 1600 shells.

From Jeremy W's book the parts to convert a MkII into a MKIII was a request from the marketing department to promote the new model. Few differences in fact but the aerodynamics were improved. He also wrote that the complete body shells were said standard but much lighter when checked.

The MKII/III Autocar went for £ 58 650 at GW Bonhams auction if I'm correct.
