Ok...heres another slightly controversial question!
With these new MSVR passes we don't have tickets right? So really there is no way they can tell whether we are at the circuit or not? So in theory it would be possible to turn up and spectate on days when you wern't marshalling without anyone knowing!?! *This is just an observation* I'm not actually going to do it....i'm going to be a marshal for two of the three days! |

Surely this is just like the last time you brought up a similar scenario. and the answer's the same. If you're not down to marshal, but turn up during the day in advance of duties the following day - no problem. However, if you're one of those that habitually does it in order to only marshal racing, but not testing or practice word would soon get about. You do realise that David Scott WILL read this message? Or possibly JP himself, thus feeding his obsession that we're only doing it for what we can get. |

You won't be allowed in unless you have the relevant sticker attached to your pass which means you should be marshalling it on one or more of the days anyway.

At least with tickets you could print names on stubs or something, and then hand them over at the gate - that would be physical way of tracking marshals (although I have never been asked for a ticket yet!). But this sticker on a pass thing....hmmm....it just seems like it would be more open to abuse! Not that I think marhsals are scheming at all... I'm really only pointing it out. I guess any system has its flaws, and maybe if we all know about it we can be more vigillant! A few other points though: Who is David Scott and "JP"? If I were to admit on here that I was going to use the pass to get in and watch the racing and not marshal, would it make any difference? I am not using my real name (although the one I am using is not that imaginative either) and although it is possible to track people and find out who they really are from forum posts it is quite a lot of work! Obviously if someone were to abuse the system so it would look bad for all marshals, and not just the individual concerned! |

David Scott is, I believe chief marshal.
JP is Jonathon Palmer - circuit owner! If you've got the sticker, you should be marshalling. If for some reason you can't, I see the point that it could be abused. If however you are marshalling 2 days and find that you're up early and can watch for half a day, I don't see a problem in that. Call it research! |

Just be aware that your vigilance at finding possible flaws could look to some like searching for loopholes. David SCOTT - chief of MSVR/CoC at MSVR meetings - the man who'll give us the briefing at the base of race control, who has in the past admitted to "looking over" 10ths to keep in touch with the grass roots feeling JP - Jonathan PALMER - the boss. nuff said |

Marshalling's a small world and IP addresses help. I'm sure Magnet or EP could explain if you're on post with them at A1. |

As long as someone is genuine, it doesn't matter how suspicious they may seem - marshalls are a dodgy-looking bunch after all!
I never thought of the eBay thing though! See, I'm not the only one giving people ideas!!! I would be genuinly impressed if someone could actually work out who I was from these posts, then come up to me at an event and tell me who I was. If that makes sense! That would be very cool...if a little bit creepy! lol anyway....for the record (about a million times now!) I am definalty, 100 and 10% going to do the two days I volunteered for, and not sneak in on friday, because that friday will be the first day I have had off since christmas and I fully intend to spend it relaxing! |

CombeMarshal given the journey you'd be better to try to go sometime after 7.00pm on Thursday night - that way you stay clear of the Reading/M25 traffic - trouble is it might be dark when you get to Brands - how are your tent pitching skills.
If you try to go Friday morning you'd need to be at Brands stupidly early (7.30am ish I'd imagine) to avoid hitting every traffic jam between our part of the world and Brands. |

Hopefully I will go straight from work in Gloucester on the Thursday leaving about 4:30pm so should get there while there is enough light to put the tent up, which reminds me I must check the tent it hasn't been out since the 24hrs at Silverstone last year.
I didn't get to Brands at all last year, where is the camping likely to be? Will it be behind the Kentagon where it was for the first A1GP? |
