Would you give Verstappen a race seat?

Just watching the A1GP and Verstappen is amazing, he has overtaken about 6 cars so far in this race, a real racer, was he overlooked while in F1?

Does he deserve another crack at the whip, or has his chance come and gone?

Please no, F1 is boring. I prefer to see him racing in A1GP.

verstappen or "king of the gravel traps" as he is otherwise known, has well and truly had his time in F1, albeit with backmarker teams. He must hold some sort of record for being the only driver to have driven for Minardi, Jordan, Arrows and whoever else was offering a top class drive at the back of the grid...!

To be fair, Verstappen turned in a number of impressive performances in F1; Argentina '95 and '96 and Malaysia '01 springing to my mind. However, in my view these performances were infrequent and often bracketed by erratic moments, which in my opinion means that F1 is well and truly over for Jos.

Perhaps five years ago he would have shone if given the chance of a top-line drive (and remember there were rumours he would replace Irvine at Ferrari). But now, he has nothing especially dramatic to offer an F1 team. There are better drivers and younger drivers and some better, younger drivers around.

I think his talents have been gone to waste at back end teams, he showed promise in his early years, especially at Simtek, and occasionally at Arrows TWR in 1996 so I think he merited a place in a top midfield team moreso than the likes of Minardi, Arrows and Simtek.

He has never raced for Jordan AFAIK.

karimbo has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!

He is still younger than JV and DC. They have been having second (third, fourth...) chances forever now.

In the rain Jos is an absolute master. After just a single season in F3 in 1993, (he won the championship) he began his F1 career in '94: his team mate was Scumacher. Even veterans like Barrichello, Irvine, Herbert, Brundle and Piquet looked bad next to Kaiser Michael.

Jos was the one Honda picked to develop their F1 car. Then they decided to join Villeneuve and Craig Pollock at BAR. We're still waiting for the first win...

There is an expression: to be at the right place at the right time... that was the case for Damon Hill and Jacques Villeneuve. It wasn't the case for Jos, neither for Zanardi or for Jan Magnussen. In competitive series (everyone with more or less the same material: Karting, Formula 3) they really stood out. In Formula One, where a Newey-designed car makes all the difference some pretty average drivers became world champions...

No way ... Never bin a fan of Jos "the Fist of Fury" Verstappen, and probably never will be

Ok he's bin driving for teams like Minardi, Arrows, Simtek ... And for a good reason, he dosen't have what it takes for a topdrive.

And, Lost boys don't have enough money to buy him a seat there ....

Think this coupled with his up-down performances of A! thus far speaks volumes as to why F1 bosses wouldn't bat an eyelid... But you're right, I think Jos is good for A1

Jos has had his day really. He was on the grid for most of a decade, and didn't do an awful lot to shine in that time - one or two impressive races a year arent' enough to merit a place. He's lost to the only really good team-mates he ever had, and not convincingly beaten anybody bar Magnussen and Rosset.

I think all the best drives of his career were emasculated by average or below par cars.

If the question is, are there 24 better drivers than Verstappen currently eligible for F1? Yes, I think there are.
Have all of them got '06 racing drives in F1? Definitely not.
Is Verstappen better than some drivers in F1 06 racing seats? Without any doubt.

I reckon Verstappen is just one of a big list of Drivers where the advertising qudos and marketability factor in F1 has skewed their career despite their ability behind the wheel.

I thought he replaced Magnussen at Stewart, rather than raced against him? Also he did outperform "Mimmo" Schiattarella at Simtek in 1995, and matched De la Rosa and Bernoldi in successive seasons at Arrows in '00 -'01, although obviously none of them did very much in F1 either! I can't see Jos getting another chance, I don't think he particularly merits it and he has already had so called 'last chances' at Arrows and Minardi, although it would have been interesting to see him in the '99 Jordan (he was in line to replace Damon Hill had he decided to retire midway through the season IIRC)

Er no. Brundle was often better where as Jos never was.
