GP2 Istanbul - Weekend Thread
Ok then, pretty difficult to gauge the form after just one round, but Grosjean/ART, Parente/Super Nova and Kobayashi/DAMS seemed to be the main men with Pantano/RE (ER HERM... SORRY!), Senna/I-Sport and a few others not far off.
So what do we think will happen in Turkey? ART and I-Sport have been good here in the past but it's heartening to see category/level stalwarts DAMS and Super Nova coming back into the picture..... Last edited by chunterer; 9 May 2008 at 18:46. |

Great for Pantano - and very very good for Carroll. He's showing exactly why he should be on the GP2 grid.
Heard Valsecchi had a very bad crash at the end of the session - took a long time to get him out of the car because he became enveloped in the tyres. Parente, Buemi and Kobayashi are a bit off form - as is Filippi.... Bit harder for rookies this weekend I suppose, although Grosjean and Valsecchi are up there. |

Carroll, after only 1 hour in the car, takes 3rd? Amazing.

Valsecchi had a huge crash at the end of the back straight - he just went straight and didn't seem to brake - and was buried deep in the tyre wall. He is fine, nothing broken, but will be out for the weekend on medical advice. Shame, as he was looking handy in 9th.
Filippi's sidepod cover came lose on his second set of tyres so he had to come in, he was pulled into scrutineering for five minutes, and lost his laps. He is looking super upset at the moment, as he was at the sharp end in the first half of qualy (after going totally the wrong way in set up in free practice). Hanley: +10 for avoidable accident in Barcelona Valerio: +5 for extra lap after end of free practice Kobayashi: +5 for extra lap after end of free practice 5 other drivers up to the stewards for not slowing under yellow at the start of qualy: no news yet. |

Nunes, Valerio, Pavlovic, Soucek, Conway: +5 on grid for failing to sufficiently slow for yellow flags in qualifying.

Hasn't really been mentioned, but Valles 13th (11th once Valsecchi and Hanley are taken out of equation) on his first outing for BCN is pretty good. When was the last time we saw a BCN car qualify that high? (End of 2006 to answer my own question :P)

Yes good point about Valles OJB, says something about the guy's ability. However he was one of my dark horses for the title at FMSI, but one would think his chances have gone with BCN...... Wonderif Parente can make progres in the race. Shame also for new teammate Soucek that he was penalised as he seems to be competitive. |

Not wishing anything bad against Bakkerud, but I hope Soucek gets a couple of races with Super Nova to show what he is capable of and remind people what they are missing

Bruno Senna is out of Race 2, after colliding with a dog. There was at leat two dogs on the track, bringing out the saftey car.
I hope Turkey gets a massive fine for this, if not lose thier GP. |

I've got very little ITV4 signal today (they seem to be unwilling to transmit with more power than an asthmatic ant), so finding it nigh on impossible to follow - stuttering sound for minutes on end to hear about 5 seconds of an interview with Senna's team boss talking about the dog incident. Ridiculous! How the hell did they even get into the circuit, let alone onto the track?!

Yeah, that was a bit of a joke.
Paul Jackson mentioned iSport getting compensated for the damage to the car, and I don't think he is unjustified in mentioning that! Congratulations to the Top 3, not too bad a race - seen better, but seen worse! |

Dogs on tracks is definitely not the thing Turkish GP needed keeping in mind the scandal at the podium ceremony in F1.
