Pirenzo, I don't care for a lot of the modern autodromes, like a lot of people. However, I know my assertions about Monza are quite accurate. In addition, there is a maximum allowed apex speed in the FIA rules for decreasing radius corners. I will double check, but it is either 125 or 75km/h (78 or 47mph).

I also know that F1 cars could use some work in order to deal with high speed, high downforce corners, and to allow more chances for overtaking. That's really their problem. In designing a track, I do look at having clear overtaking opportunities. Then again, I don't have a one track mind about it. I am even more concerned with creating a challenging/interesting circuit, both on paper and on the ground. As a designer, I should aim to create the greatest circuits I can, regardless of the more particular concerns of some sanctions. After all, the drivers and riders in those top series are just the people I have in mind. Design a great circuit, and leave out the acres of tarmac run-off. These guys and gals are the best in the sport. The venues they race on should challenge their abilities. I don't envision "amateur" tracks. Amateurs can race on whatever tracks they see fit, but they should be challenged as well. And if you're an amateur, you shouldn't be pushing the limits to the same extent or in the same ways as professionals, obviously. Creating some level of complacency in the upper ranks is irresponsible and dangerous, but creating it with amateurs, some of whom may make it up the ladder, is even worse (and even scarier).

I personally think that mine was no less exciting than AF's, and 'angular' was exagerating to say the least. I wasn't really trying to create more overtaking, or make it safer, it just looked to me like the track was very samey. There were 6 more or less identical 3rd gear corners, which I altered very slightly to make the challenge slightly different each time, and there was that change at the last corner, which I just prefered. The esses I made faster and less comprimised on line by removing the slight left kink beforehand.
I take your point that the FIA doesn't generally allow decreasing radius corners though.

At the end of the day, which you use doesn't bother me, the point is this thread has come back to life and there is at least some discussion about it going on

Your intent may not have been to make more angular corners, but they looked that way on the diagram (it may.

Those three esse bits would be 5th gear affairs, I think. As for the three 180s, 3rd/4th gears, 4th/5th gear, and 5th/6th gear corners respectively. So none of those several corners would be slow/moderate speed. The slowest corners would be Turn 2 (2nd gear), Turn 5 (2nd gear), second apex of the first 180 (3rd/4th gear), the hairpin (2nd gear), and the corner before the run out of the stadium (3rd/4th gear).

Mainly, I just didn't think your changes fit so well with the rest of the circuit (interrupted the track's rhythm). And the lower right corner just looked empty.

Anyway, maybe now we should get down to naming the corners. I was thinking of naming corners after somewhat lesser known (at least currently) manufacturers/teams: Osca, Gordini, Bugatti, Tyrrell, Lancia, etc.

The troble with that is that a lot of those names would be ones that were used on the last MTR as F1 teams no longer operating. Maybe we could open it up to names of driver & team legends from other motorsports. Whilst some of these drivers/teams might have raced in F1 they wouldn't have been as prominent as they were in other motorsports eg. Penske, Newman/Haas, AJ Foyt, Mario Andretti (for achieving so much outside of F1), Jacky Ickx (for Le Mans), Richard Petty, Dale Earnhardt, Peter Brock (it'd have to be one of the best corners on the track though), Ganassi, Greg Moore, Colin McRae, Andy Green, Rick Mears, Al Unser (Jnr & Snr)...The list can go on & on & all would be worthy of having a corner named after them.

Its only like it is because I did it in paint & then just transferred it to PSP & used the hot wax effect on it. I've never really got to grips with using any other software so I just stuck with what I know as I wanted to get it done quite quickly.

Joking, it's good, some good corners there.

Not sure that runoff needs to be that big just before the pit straight though.
