When everyone sees what Honda is capable of this year with their F1 power unit, all the DPi teams will fear Honda's arrival.

Presumably they'll be fearing for their radiators, as it jettisons bits of engine at the following cars.

Who knows, we could have Alfa Romeo. With the changed at F1 leadership who knows.

Why not Ford?

Dunno if it was Racer, DSC or SC365 but one of them had an interview with Ford's motorsport head honcho and he ruled out DPi in the near future as well.

Kinda crazy - but what about another Dallara-Ferrari link-up a la the 333SP?

While I know you can, they are supporting four GTLM cars.... four very expensive GTLM cars. Without significant funding coming from Joest, or an outside source I don't see it happening.

Run the Audi R18 body on a Dallara chassis, then put a V10 in it. There's your ticket in IMSA.

The amount of work to make that happen would be stupid. Like, it just wouldn't work for less than 500k.

Hypothetically speaking, if you were the Chairman of the Management Board at Mercedes, and you were asked this question and you were considering a program, how would you respond?

Depends.. Me personally?

"Nothing is off the table in terms of motorsport for us, it needs to be evaluated carefully and with purpose, should something fit our motorsport and marketing goals, or desires, we will take a serious look at it, and re-evaluate at that time. For now, we don't have any specific plans in place, but, we are paying attention. Our GT3/GTD customer program is our main focus in IMSA currently, and we are fully committed to that being successful."

Good enough?

Yeah nailed it. Though on the spot, with English not being your primary language, it is sort of hard to come up with a press release quality answer

Oh sure, but by now Honda has mastered the art of ultra lean burning turbo engines.

If they start applying to other engines what they learned in F1 everyone else would forfeit before even trying to race them. They'd be completely outclassed. With their tech they could run at 17:1 AFR at 18:1 CR and produce over 800hp from a 1.6l engine, none of these toy engines could ever hope to match that. Where formula Cadillac is 50hp above the Gibson, the Honda would probably be 90hp above the Gibson even with their engines being nerfed by BOP.

I know it's damaging to your ego, but facts are facts, neither Ford nor GM would dare enter F1, even as strictly a power unit manufacturer. They'd languish even more pathetically than Honda did in their first year, because that's the technical level available to them. Look how afraid they(Ford & GM) are to enter P1 in WEC that they have to create their own class, or enter a lesser category and exclude themselves from outright victory at LeMans, or to even show up. Because they know they don't have the technical ability or engineering or as skilled a team to challenge Toyota or Porsche, they'd just embarrass themselves, just like when Cadillac tried to take on Audi.

IMSA would apply a fuel/air restrictor that would make it irrelevant.

Or, maybe because costs and demand are so high, and there is absolutely NO return on their investment, or reason for them to be in F1. But, I mean... facts are facts, even if they hurt your ego.

Completely emotional response, but that's expected.

The lame attempt by IMSA to have their own two tier prototype class.

Formula Cadillac is one class and DPi and P2 are the other class, since GM can't compete with Toyota or Porsche, they make their own class to feel better about their lack of talent.
