A few more from Phillip Island....
The very pretty pale blue Mk 1 RS1600 belongs to our very own Dr. Bob, of this Parish. (I love Mk 1 Escorts, especially those with more than 1 cam!) Sadly I did not get any on track shots of the car, as having hauled the car down from Sydney Dr Bob suffered a terminal failure with a suspected head / gasket problem 3 laps into qualifying on the Friday, before I arrived. Dr Bob did hang around for the weekend with Mrs Bob and we chatted a few times over the weekend. I know he has plans racing up in Europe shortly but I will leave the good Dr to expand on all that. Trust you had a safe and uneventful journey home.... Sorry Bauble, nothing from the 50's in this batch. |

Strange Amazon there, probably genuine RHD but the wipers arrangement remains LHD. La mondialisation avant l'heure?

I was reading up about the Allard Farrallac (Mk2) and its history, and an interesting article I had found tracing the history referred to a certain Mr Bob Bull.....
Quote:
http://psychoontyres.blogspot.com/20...allac-mk2.html I could not work out what the relevance of Farrellac was.....the same link told me "..... ended up in the hands of cycle manufacturer Don Farrell who with his wife Stella, a champion cyclist....." No doubt explains the pics of our Bauble on a bike that follow! Im a bit stumped trying to work out which one is Bob in the top picture.... though perhaps the flat cap is a clue? EB, I knew Don Farrell quite well as I bought a lot of my equipment from him at his shop in Holmstall Parade on the Edgware Road. I remember him showing myself and friend Eric the car when he was rebuilding it behind the shop. The Farrell frame you can see in the article was one I swapped with Tony Bianchi for the ride in the Farrellac, Tony wanted to have a Farrell bike to go with the car, and I have often wondered if he ever restored the frame, as that was his intention.

As for Bob the Busker I have now seen it all! Thanks for the pics of the Farrellac.... it was a new one to me and one I had to find out more about. Very interesting. Anyway a few more of PI from me.... the X19 I put in because I recall it being mentioned recently in another thread in HRT relating to a new series it might fit in. Chunty will know!. The #92 is the Ford Millthorpe Special.... a car I know a little of the history of. Built in 1947/48 by a man called Charlie Millthorpe..... It has a 1941 Ford chassis (ex Army vehicle) 1939 Ford gearbox. 1940 front-end, 1935 rear end. It is powered by a1951 Ford side valve V8 motor made in Canada. Stromberg 97 carburettor. Ford Customline brakes.... apparently there are parts of the car made from recycled road signs. As I mentioned previously we have many Bitzah (this and Bitzah that) type cars down here. It raced at Barjac (Benalla) in 1959 where it won £175. It was at Tarrawingee motor races at Wangaratta also in 1959. In its time it has raced up at Bathurst, Gnoo Blas, Phillip Island, Fisherman's Bend , and more recently, at Winton 3 times, and at the Wargunyah Speedway for its 50th anniversary. |

A few more....
Just for Vic the Yellow Torana is a bit of an Aussia Viva in many ways. The Torana started out as a replacement for the HA series Vauxhall Viva here in Aus. Introduced in 1967, the Torana was an updated version of the HB Viva and without checking I think used the Viva floorpan. Originally it had a little 1.2l 4 cyl engine but that soon gave way to a sportier car.... Like you had a Brabham Viva of course we had a Brabham Torana which basically had a extra carb. That made way for the XU-1 Torana with a 6 cyl engine, which won Bathurst in 72, which made way for subsequent models with V8s and basically homologation specials for racing. Peter Brock made his name in a Torana. Oh and Torana is the Aboriginal word for 'to fly'! The 1979 Bathurst race was won by Brock in a Torana, by a margin, but Toranas finished 1-8. Not a good day for Ford. A Celica and a GTV made up the top 10. Not bad for a car that started life as an updated Viva! Short highlights vid https://youtu.be/cCRLKBIUkXw Anyway back to photos. Last edited by E.B; 18 Mar 2022 at 07:30. Reason: Added the Torana (Aussie Viva) history for Viv. |

Just to throw some Viva technical information back at you (with the added bonus of annoying Baub by side-tracking his thread). The HB viva was introduced with a 56 BHP 1159cc 4 cylinder engine, and the Brabham version was based on that (I think it was basically a different inlet manifold & carb, plus of course the mandatory stickers). The Viva GT which I take my name from came with a twin carb 2 litre OHC engine (from the Victor VX/490) with exactly twice the power at 112 BHP. I will now go and put on my hard hat ready for when Baub wakes up! |

Lot of Vivas about. Someone obviously loved the name. And I can see why so many cars had it, including the Brabham. Very useful engine. Anyway let's see what pictures Baub has got today

Our own Jasper Clan used to run an X1/9 some years ago - had the pop-up headlamps rigged to pop up and flash alternatively left and right but the scrutineers took exeption to it, I seem to recall...

Since I first posted a few pictures on the Parade, I moved the, into a 'Used Images' folder, so anything that appeared twice was detected and not saved a gain. Today I checked and I was using a lot of space on the hard drive, therefore I emptied the folder. It contained 11, 077 images
Just thought you might like to know. |

And in "SS2", second pic, thats not a nice way to treat a Ferrari D50! (I think it was only the Ferrari D50 not the Lancia had the coloured nose bands) Last edited by E.B; 20 Mar 2022 at 20:57. |

Digital cameras are a time saver, they are here to stay. Not easy getting them developed, but it does store a lot.
I wonder what happened for the Ferrari to end up in that state? Either way not great for such a classic car. Ferrari means more than Lancia anyway! |

Great pics, Joe. Strange right hand seat kart with three pedals tho… The beach buggy looks like the one used for the movie The Thomas Crown Affair and some others. Is it a GT 40?

Nice to see some proper photographs on here, Zef. and good quality as well, do post some more when you have scanned them. It all gets a little boring otherwise.
