FIA F2 2010 season discussion

The current season may not be finished yet, but we may as well look forward to 2010's FIA Formula Two championship.

It seems a provisional calendar has slipped out quietly, with one or two surprises:

Quote:
2010 FIA Formula 2 Championship

18/4 GB Silverstone*
2/5 MA Marrakech
30/5 I Monza
20/6 B Zolder
4/7 P Algarve
18/7 GB Brands Hatch*
1/8 CZ Brno
5/9 D Oschersleben
19/9 E Valencia

*Subject to the ASN's confirmation
Monza is a welcome addition, and great to have a street circuit round at Marrakech. A shame Oschersleben's still on there though, and Valencia.

As far as drivers go, I've heard Richard Plant and Felix Rosenqvist are looking to enter, but little else so far. Plant, Kazim Vasiliauskas and Adam Foster have all won a test in the F2 car for finishing 1-2-3 in FPA.

You would think Vasiliauskas would return and be quite a strong contender given how he has peformed this year.

I'm pretty sure Thruxton isn't Grade 2 - even if it isn't Grade 2 needed, it's probably not the sort of venue they are looking for.

I see Montmeló isn't in calendar

Monday I was in Montmeló for F2 test, and i heard that next year the series will cost 30% more than this year.

GP2, GP3, World Series by Renault and Formula Renault 2.0 Euroseries all race at Montmeló (Barcelona, Catalonia). They also visit Nürburgring and/or Hockenheim, depending on where the German Grand Prix is held. Did you expect F2 and Int'l Formula Masters to share circuits with its rivals?

If you don't want to confuse the Circuit Ricardo Tormo with the Valencia Street Circuit, then call the former Cheste, which is the village next to the track.

Glad to see the series breaking out of Europe but shame there are not any rounds in Middle East or further afield.

Was it originally run as a European series or as an International one?

I know GP2 used to go to more F1 events but now there is a GP2 asia it is largely European rounds as well.

Europe has always been a leader for bringing on F1 talent but doesnt seem right when Bernie is trying to promote more talent from other continents.

Races out of Europe? Well, let's not forget that conceptually the series was meant to cost 200k euros. Out of the window goes its mission statement.

Another championship event lost at Donington then! Quelle surprise.

What's on at Silverstone on the 18th April then? Or will F2 be the 'feature' race, as at the Donington round this year.

Hopefully the series can attract a better standard of drivers this season. I'm not saying it was mega poor this year but as it's supposed to be a sort of feeder to Formula 1 then i would say it needs a higher calibre of drivers.

It wasn't as bad as was made out, though. Looking through the list of drivers, you can't say it wasn't better than the first season (well, pretty much any season) of IFM. That in itself is a reasonable start. New series are always going to get off to a rocky start. I even think GP3 may not have a fantastic line-up next year, so I don't think you can blame JP and the gang for that

This is the main problem with any pay-per-drive series, you are going to get the first 25 drivers who have the money or get their sponsors sorted out quickly, rather than the best 25 drivers by talent.

Im sure JP is just happy to get the field full up as soon as possible and make his money rather than set a deadline for all possible entrants and then pick out the best 25 (if more than 25 apply).

Unfortunately nearly all series operate on a first come basis, and all are pay per drive.

So the series now costs £275,000. Thats not good, but the upgrades are a plus. Should be nearer WSR pace now.

That's €352,000, verging on double the planned budget.

You are all have forgotten about +1 meeting next year , its 1/8 more price already.
Ok, now it costs 330.000-350.000 euro , but it will be almost as fast as WSbR which costs 700.000 euro , twice more !
While old price was 250.000-270.000 euro and the price & speed were the same as in formula master or formula 3.

Maybe now it will become formula2 ( before it was only formula super palmer audi).
