Australian Touring Car Racing in 10 years time

It seems most category specs have a shelf life of about a decade. So far, V8 Supercar has existed from 1993-2003.

Rumours continue to surface about the possible introduction of "other" makes into the ATCC (that's still basically what we're watching).

What do you expect/want to see by 2013?

In the year 2013 Rodney Forbes will go down in history as the only person to have destroyed at least one of every model Falcon from the 21st century.

No no no, youve got it all wrong!

From the start of the 2008 season the championship points will be allocated on a MODM (Maximum Of Daddys Money) basis.

All chequebooks will be open and every dollar of your fathers spent will equal one point.

Morris, Rodney and Dumbrell have been fighting it out for the previous 5 years to see who will be the victor. New young gun Dalberto is waiting in the wings to take command as soon as his parents hostile takeover of BHP Billiton is finalised.

Both Morris and Forbes camps have been hampered in recent rounds as the fees for the Chryogenic freezing of their respective fathers has cut into "Team Funds"

The 2014 Championship is featuring the first round to be held inside Aussie territorial waters in three years as the main population of the middle east, the only new growth area for V8 Supercars left, are all now on a massive boat waiting for the Labour Party to be voted into power allowing their new "Come On In we have PLENTY of room" policy to come to effect!!

Funny, I thought Mattracer was being serious when wanting a view on the future landscape

Jealousy is a ***** though isnt it??

I think I will have to meet with Mr Crennan to try and build a few classes of SORF for you rdmdog, you dont seem to be able to differentiate between straight out buy drivers, and people with talent and ability who get chosen to drive on their talent, and are also lucky enough to come from a family with a strong business acumen.

I will shout it from the rooftops if you like, Tony D'Alberto DID NOT buy any 2003 drive!

Prove it or shut the f*ck up!

GT, Im sure Tony is a great young bloke and its fantastic that he is spending his time at a racetrack rather than trying to rob old ladies, but do you really believe that one season in State level FFord is enough preparation for the Konica series?

You seem to know a bit about the lad so I have a few questions,
i) has he ever raced on slicks?
ii) has he ever raced in a sedan or front engined car?
iii)has he ever raced outside Vic?
iv) how many races has he won?
v) has he ever raced at a national meeting, (Sandown late last year maybe?)
vi) how many races has he done since getting off his P's?
vii)has he ever raced a high horsepower car?
viii)how did he go in last years state championship?

For you to expect us to believe that after very little racing he was selected to drive for John Crennen, oops sorry, Faulkner without some sort of deal being done is, well, OUT THERE!

Dont get me wrong, I wish him all the best, but you must realise that the kid is (hopefully) still learning and he is the right category to learn.

However youll need to do a better job of convincing me that HRTYL picked him out over the rest of the more experienced young racers in the country on the reasonable results from less than ten rounds of a state championship.

By the way, I hear Iraq is looking for a new Information Minister!!

Hopefully - cars are more production based, class racing, multiple manufacturers.

I don't think V8Supercars will be around, nor will AVESCO, who will likely pack up and go when the very likely downhill slide of the category is about to start. There is no way that the current state of the category can continue. All these parity arguments, current manufacturers complaining of new one's entering, arguments over who owns what franchise and so on can't continue.

I voted for the status quo, perhaps unbelievably to some. The performance disparity over the last few seasons is only as obvious as it is because there are only two manufacturers competing, so any shortcomings are highlighted. This should however, not be athe sole reason to introduce another (or multiple) manufacturer(s).

I wouldnt worry much, if TEGA cocks this up, there will be only one manufacturer in the near future

Back to the thread...

Ford and Holden have to change there motors in the near future anyway as both of them don't use the 5ltr anymore. New engines and cammed ones must be introduced and then that opens the door for other manufactures to enter. I would like to see Toyota and Mitsubishi in the series as they sell family sourced cars here and have the right to field cars in the series. How can H/F have the say in who can or can't enter are we moving with the times or are we that Neanderthal.

Thanks to the activities of the geniuses at TWRA, the whole series is likely to go to hell in a handbasket!

Then the fools with no idea like someone else in this post can make himself feel better because someone with talent and youth on his side will sadly get as good a go as he gets... none!

Its not easy being green..........

We seem to be heading toward Holden/Ford/Mitsubishi/Toyota anyway, and that sort of formula will probably still be around in 10 years time. GM will oppose OHC engines until the day before they actually use them (or can see some advantage), while Ford will oppose them just to help keep BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Opel out.

BMW (and probably the others) won't enter if the they have to use a pushrod engine. Expect option 3 (OHC engines + BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Opel) in about 15 years.

Unfortunatly, what I'd like to see happen, and what is likely are not the same thing.

Would like to see a variety of manufacturers and car configurations, but based on production specs, with suitable freedoms based on practicality/cost - somewhere between GTP and Nations Cup.

If this wasn't acceptable, then go the other extreme and use the sports sedan regs and make some serious racing cars (800kg and 800hp sounds nice) with sillouette bodies.

What's likely - a continuation of the tired old formula because those involved have too much invested in the status quo to want to change and there's not yet a good enough of an alternative for enough of us poor mugs to switch to watching something else such that the commercial powers take notice and make changes.

now I'm depressed.

But how do pushrod valvetrains entertain the crowds, and this is and "entertainment formula"?

There would undoubtedly be a small percentage of the crowds that would not be aware of pushrods antway, so to write rules within or without these components is missing the point a bit.

Closer to the truth is the marketing spinoffs being involved with the biggest thing going in Australian motor sport- but they will have a problem if some enthusiasts get technical about the road cars vs the race cars concerning RWD/FWD and there being no V8 on the showroom floor, even in name association.

Whats the difference between an OHV engine and an OHC engine besides the obvious technical componentry?

Short answer, the marketing...

OHC is more recent so the marketing gurus invent tripe like the 02 advantage to say gee look at me, I am a new engine, I am new so I must be good. Doesnt matter that in practical applications like road cars it has no midrange torque to speak of, or has to be revved like a banchee to get any forward motion with the accompanying fool consumption...

Gee my new Honismitota revs to 11,500rpm, peak power is at 11,499rpm, and peak torque is at 6,000 rpm.... yahoo for twin cam
