That video kinda renders the HANS device a little irrelevant!

Derwent is there any indication of how to spot the fake or who the trader is? If they are very good fakes the only way to alert people that they may have one is to name the trader they bought it off, surely?

No there isn't. The story was circulating on FB recently with no validation, I'm glad to see the evidence.

Look out for the FIA hologram which is appearing on everything from seats to race suits. If you can't find it, walk away. Really, margins on these things are so tight that if you see something being sold substantiality under normal RRP you need to be suspicious. There are some people who sell harnesses at less than I can buy them, inspect them very carefully.

If it looks too good to be true it probably is.

Presumably those in that area know the firm responsible.
It does seem strange that they would go to some length and cost to produce these fake belts. They would have to make quite a batch for it to br worthwhile with all the fake labels etc.
The dealer must be an idiot because in the event of an injury of worse he would be held liable.

The dealer may not even have known....approached by some chap in a sharp suit...."we've got a load of bankrupt stock harnesses to flog off before the receiver gets there" etc etc etc. He certainly won't have produced them, these will be done on an industrial scale and sold worldwide.

Alternatively, we don't even know they were for sale cheaply. Maybe someone claimed himself to be a grey market importer, there were a few of those a few years back, between GPR going bust and Sparco realising what was happening.

Sure as hell won't be knocked out in a back room in Wales. These will be all over the world by now. Funnily enough the issue of fake FIA logos has raised itself in a karting discussion I am having.

Yet again someone who is prepared to put profit before the lives and safety of people.

I tend to shop around when looking for certain things, but have always bought all my dafety gear from DT.

My thinking is they have far too much to loose by cutting corners and selling crap.

a Shame some of the engine parts suppliers don't think like that.
