Peter:Problem with Lola is that you will not stand a chance of entering MM or LMC.
With the Lotus 11 you can ,despite it not being as good a car in period as I remember Mk 1 first one ,two, three with Raymond Baxter doing the"What Lola wants Lola gets" line.Very risque 65 911's in good race trim about 100K.Same 67 car with History 65/70. RS 911's are easier to sell in LHD than RHD.225K is very top price for RSL and thats LHD.Problem with 911's is that there are to many and even ones with good History fail to get slots in main events.Saw a actual Martini RSR the other day that has failed to make LMC cut.The RS's are to good and so easy to drive do not seem like a Historic car. |

Just been nosing on Hall and Hall's website, and in the background to one of the Nigel Mansell Lotus shots is Remus.
Looking absolutely perfect. Now, I thought that car was in the Lindsey family, who had a large chunk of an auction house? Or am I completely showing my underwear again? |

That certainly explains the difference/similarity between the Lola & Lotus price and saleability. Presumably the same is true for some of the FPF engined cars (usually rear engined) that aren't much dearer despite the more expensive mechanics. All the 911s seem dear to me, but as you say they are relatively easy to drive and acceptable everywhere and I guess the short wheel base ones are very thin on the ground. My 911 Club Sport was much rarer (and faster) than an RS Carrera, but they are so unknown and no major competition history that I could understand their lower value - not the easiest of road cars either, it used two lanes on a bumpy motorway at 200+ kms/h and the lack of soundproofing made it rather noisy! With something like the Hesketh 911 presumably there aren't many with similar owners and they only need to find one person prepared to pay well over the odds for one that has such a claim to fame. But would you want a road car that was driven by an F1 driver, chances are it will have been thrashed far far harder than was expected! Like with the popstar who had a Ferrari which used to spend most weeks in the garage so that he could take it out and trash it at the weekend, much better to buy the one belonging to the granny who only used it for going to church in! Mike are you talking about a B or an A as I thought the Moss Trophy was pre 61?

Was meaning that car had same previous owner. Its neither of above, 1959 and hails from Malvern, so am regressing gradually. Didn't know that Legends were going to announce the Moss Trophy until read Octane, so bit of a bonus and more choice! |

Do not profess to know a great deal about pre mid 50's desirables, B16 Chevron 'originals' are not fetching the 350K now, mainly cos all of a sudden they are not as original as they were supposed to be. Though a certain Italian's blo**y red cars seem to be holding up quite well. A nice TVR sold for it's asking price recently, but as for cars maintaining their value and saleability over the next 12/24 months, wish I had your optimism, and as for MGB's [rubber bumper] least said soonest mended ! |

Re the Hesketh / Hunt car...
Article in the "In Gear" section of the Sunday Times today says that last week's article got it wrong......Hesketh has now been spoken to and says that whilst he did own the car the one he gave Hunt was "a more common 2.7 RS". Hesketh sold the yellow 3.0 to Sir Anthony Bamford, who apparently wrote a letter saying that it had been Hunt's road car - accepted by Hesketh as "an honest mistake". Oddly, Nick Whale says "its not worth 50p more if Hunt drove it or didn't drive it. It's irrelevant. It wouldn't have mattered if the Pope had driven it" ......and I thought provenance was all |

>>>>>>>>Mystery solved,RE the MGB. its the 'Vince' built WAE registered car,Colin Pearcy had it built several years ago,in its early days it was supposedly fitted with a 2.2ltr version [this was told to me by someone who drove it]
I thought the car in the pic was the "Windmill & Lewis" car which had a far more illustrious history in the hands of Terry Osborne with big arches and slicks? That was 222WAE. Who's Vince? |

'Vince' was Colin Pearcy's car builder,he was also responsible for some of Gerry Marshall's Bs [Sorry Vince, cant remember your surname,no doubt Gregor can!] Vince was responsible for the rebuilding of the car for Colin, several years ago into its present form, the point was that I didn't think it actually had any 'works' connection? 50k just seems rather high for a car with no works history.
But then again, there are several other makes where the asking prices seem rather 'inflated' at present.Certainly not the direction that some had predicted would happen in these uncertain times. Last edited by MagnetON; 25 Jan 2010 at 12:15. Reason: Restored Original |

looking on a website were people sell racers direct I see a "Gerry Marshall" dolly sprint going for auction for £12k guide price (the auction was yesterday) and a private seller selling his one for £18k.. I was surprised it was that way round! A few years ago there was a dolly that was ex GM and it hung around for ages before going for about 8k. I dont know what actually happened to it....
It is interesting to see these 70's tin tops starting to get price traction |

Not sure Simon but I think that Dolly needed a fair bit doing to it to get it into race condition. The other one I believe was a works car.

sorry which is which?
The Gerry Marshall car on the market now is ex works or the one that sold a few years ago? The other one (which was at teh Autosport Show) is just a well prepped one with no history . What about the Dave Thomas Capri which is ex Gordon Spice in this weeks Autosport? is that eligible for 70's or is it too late? and no I am not looing to buy - just curious! |

This is potentially a very good and useful thread.
I am considering adding another car this year and would appreciate some input/guidance/debate on: 1) Lotus Elite/Super 95 2) MGA 3) Porsche 911 SWB (may consider slightly later) |

I think the Ex GM cars are one and the same.Dont forget that Gerry was actually building some of these, that was,I think, without works 'assistance'.
The other car is a factory car. Eamonn, out of those three I think I would choose the 911,if you can find one at a 'realistic' price, there is a lot of junk about where the asking price is much higher than it should be. |

Whilst Nick Whale believes his Hesketh 911 value is justified regardless of who may or may not have driven it I think the same cannot be said for The Ex-Michael Schumacher Van Diemen Formula Ford on Fleabay - yours for a knock down price of £20k.... and to think I sold a Button commer cadet engine for £90.........

I thought Dave T sold his Ex Spice car. Not able to get A/Sport so if it is the big winged blue/white car then it would run with Group 2 Touring 70's. Although I understood Dave had the original panels too so it could (at great cost) be returned to its original Grp 1 state. |

For a car with a nice history I thought it was very reasonably priced at 16k... thought the Capri talk would flush you out Peter!

Actually, it was the Gerry reference. ;-)
Edit: Are you saying the Capri is 16k or the Dolly? |

Capri - that is why I thought it was good value.. the Dollys were £18k for the CSCC front runner with no history and yesterday the Gerry white car was auctioned with a guide price of 9-12k. The two dollys are on a race car site for direct selling....
