Giando should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
F2004 head protections

Hi!
Did you notice that the Ferrari F2004 has a big difference in its shape if compared to the F2003GA, just behind the driver’s helmet, where the side protection structures for the head are “closed” and there’s no more the little space for the airflow introduced early with the F12000 car?

What’s the reason behind this choice? As it seems to offer more resistance to air… maybe an advantage in the stiffness of the chassis?

No, no, Adam. I'm mad somehow, but not until this point!

Probably I explained my self very badly.
If you look the front section of the two cars, you'll see that the SIDE protection structures for the head of the driver (those 7cm. minum width "wurstels" for each side) are not linked to the headrest in the F2003GA, so the airflow could pass between them and the helemt, while there's plain material in this year car and it seems quite disadvantageous for the aerodynamics.

I may add that McLaren and Jaguar and Bar still have the separations between those elements and the headrest, while Renault has never had this.

It's more clear now?

Ciao

I thought it might be a little different

I need to look at a few pictures, but do you mean the actual side head protection directly to the left and right of the driver's head (the parts that were massive on the '96 Ferrari)?

Absolutely! Those parts are the ones i was talking about.

Sadly I'm not allowed to post images (don't know why, before my holydays I could...

Hope you can see the difference and tell me your opinion, Adam.

Regards
G
