Further article from a different source here - Foggy believes that Newcastle City Council support the planned race: http://www.smh.com.au/sport/motorspo...0160709-gq26bf

Wow that is cool, a race around that waterfront area would be awesome.
I'd go to Newcastle for a race for sure, I love it. Plus I have customers there, maybe I should take them to a corporate box |

It is a pity that the Council has stopped the hillclimb through King Edward Park-it went from virtual seaside up through narrow roads and pathways to the top and would really have made it interesting for supercars.
Unfortunately it is said in jest and whilst the waterfront area has some space the problems of access could be an issue. People ***** about getting into and out of various tracks and I don't see this being any exception. |

Skaife more or less alluded to the fact on Inside Supercars that any proposed race in Newy won't be around the waterfront which is problematic on many levels.
It seems Newy gets a street circuit in the interim (away from the cbd) until 'Circuit Italia' 10km north of Raymond Terrace is completed. This was the former Ringwood Park Hillclimb. The new name apparently comes from the road it's situated on Italia Rd. http://www.theherald.com.au/story/40...ject-gears-up/ Local radio in the Hunter was saying the morning this story broke that funding for both Supercars and Circuit Italia was a part deal with Tourism NSW and the State Government. How accurate that was is anyones guess. Last edited by gtcapri; 28 Jul 2016 at 07:59. |

There are anti everything groups in Newcastle. Hunter Concerned Citizens, Friends of King Edward Park, Save our Figs, Save our Rail. They are sure to have a say and are against any progress for the city. I hope it gets off the ground, but it won't be seamless.

On the opposite side if the highway of Circuit Italia is the abandoned Ringwood RAAF runway. Wouldve been a perfect solution for the drag strip but has been acquired by the Hunter Water Board. |

She claimed council wants the event but has concerns over the width of the actual track, the hill on the route which includes cross intersections that resemble the streets of San Francisco, the light rail (if and when construction begins) which will take out roughly a hundred parking spaces along one side of Hunter St, no rail access and bugger all parking in the CBD. |

Why will Newcastle be more successful than Homebush?
All they are doing is shifting the exact same product two hours up the road? |

So Sydney which was apparently the solution and going to be a game changer for V8SC, was now the problem?
And Newcastle greatest strength that will ensure its success is that it isnt in Sydney? How did that work out for Canberra? Hope they have something stronger than this once the Auditor General comes knocking. |
