Already one street race (an international one at that) bankrolled by the QLD government, not sure the "highest level" will be too interested.

Here is a discussion on another forum which includes a map...

Looking good Townsville

I reckon it would be a great race for the V8's to have... I mean, heck, Ipswitch is the nothern most race on the East Coast.. going to Townsville would be great...

Ive got my money on Ipswitch leaving the Calender, and a Townsville race taking over.

It surely ruins any chance of Winton getting back on the calender.

Lets see, Avesco is making noise about leaving Eastern Creek because they dont get a big enough crowd.

It now seems likely Avesco is going to leave QR, a race that pulled a healthy crowd not sure of numbers but if you believe AA (which I dont) it was quite substantial, for another street race.

Leaving two non permanent tracks in Qld funded by the Gov offering nothing back to motorsport as a whole.

And some still believe it was a good day when Avesco took over the v8's and cams.

It's easy to leave Eastern Creek because in Oran Park, the Sydney market is still looked after.

You leave QR and what happens to the Brisbane market?

Besides - any money for Townsville would surely not happen unless the Qld Government abandoned chasing Rally Australia?

The key points are the crowds attracted and the flow on benefits to motor racing as a result of the permanent infrastructure and its utilisation by the V8 Supercar round.

Both cannot be denied in this case.
