I was thinking real quick why the the GTD pole is slower than in 2018 with the Michellen tires but then I realized that silver/ bronze drivers have to qualify this year.

Looks like IMSA has done a good job of keeping out sneaky silvers this year.

Thought times would be faster than they were, but not terribly surprising. I know ams had to qualify gtd, were the pros allowed to qualify last year?

Question answered, thanks MR.

Potentially of note, Trent's Acura did go faster than that car's time last year.

No prob, also at Daytona the fastest race lap for GTD by a pro of course was quite a bit faster than the fastest qualifying lap.

DPi/P2 IMSA/WEC conclusions (comparing fastest single lap, and IMSA pole lap):
DPi - 1.5 seconds faster than 2018
DPi/WEC P1 - DPi 1.8 seconds slower than slowest P1 when comparing fastest lap, well over 3 seconds for the rest of the class.
DPi/WEC P2 - DPi 1 second faster. Fastest P2 car would be 8th among DPi. WEC P2 was .5 seconds faster than Sebring 2018 DPi pole.
IMSA P2 - 1 second slower than 2018 P2
IMSA P2/DPi - P2 4 seconds slower than DPi, but also an am qualifying
IMSA P2/WEC P2 -IMSA almost 3 seconds slower than WEC

DPi - closer to a P2 car than P1, almost as if it was based on a P2 platform.
IMSA P2 - Apparently IMSA is being polite about telling those entrants to get lost. Wish they weren't so hampered, and still allowed to compete overall. IMSA must be feeling bullish about the class due to number of customer DPi...er Cadillacs.

Of course all classes have pros and cons, and these comparisons only prove which is faster over a single lap, ignoring billions of other factors that would conclude any particular class is "best."

I honestly thought the DPi's would be slower vs the LMP1 nonToyotas. The P1's are about 100kg lighter.

How much hp are WEC P1 privateers running? I mean 1.8 seconds slower is comparing to the VERY privateer Dragonspeed P1 lap. The next slowest P1 (Rebellion) is still over 3 seconds faster than the fastest DPi. Fastest P1 privateer (SMP) is almost 4 seconds faster. That feels significantly faster at a track like Sebring.

In issue 116 of race engine tech. (Feb 2019), Matthew Wiles (director of ECR Engines) & Scott Meesters (DPi program manager for ECR), said the caddy engines have a max power this year of 562bhp at 6650rpm, and max torque 463 lb-ft (628Nm) at 5850rpm. Redline is 7600rpm (max they are comfortable with for durability).

Cant remember where I read it but think the SMP cars are somewhere around 700-740bhp

Those numbers sound right, 150 more hp and 100kg lighter makes for a faster car!

Pilot stream is working for me, but that doesn't mean much - the streams generally pretty unstable.

#93 Audi is an absolute liability in this race.

The race will be streamed internationally on imsa.tv, accessible in North America via VPN. Also various NBC options if you're into that sort of thing.

Timing and Scoring

Follow that link, and in that thread it mentions that you can use a VPN to access imsa.tv and stream the race even if you live in a place where it's geoblocked. I included that link for a reason!

The staggered tyre barriers that are used in the US really should be standard everywhere. That accident would've been a lot worse without them.

Looks like the track could be wet for the start today. Not sure who a wet track favors these days in protos. Maybe mazda because they won't be stressing their engine? In GT I guess Porsche is still good in the wet.

Radar and weather reports show rain until noon, then ... who knows?

It was coming down heavier a couple hours ago.

Could be some sort of fun ... unless the temp drops.

Watched most of the wec race last night. Was imagining my dad and I being there like in the past. Usually Friday was an earlier night than Thursday, then we would go out to eat in town. Sat at a table next to BMW team guys one year, and Simon pagenaud another. But while my dad likes to get away from the track for a break once in a while, I was always glued to the fences, wanting to walk the whole track as much as possible. So I could imagine a discussion last night about staying till midnight on Friday and still trying to get in Saturday morning from the hotel by morning warm-up.... I love the idea of the wec race and hope it is there to stay, but maybe just end it by 10 by making it a normal 6 hours? Or start it eaflier in the day? Really hope to be there next year or at least the year after that.

Looking forward to the main event (had to say that for all the debates over the last year or so about which race would be called or treated like it was).

Keep your common sense to yourself.

Back-to-back races are tough enough. Running until midnight then starting at ten the next day is asking a lot of teams, fans, and especially staff.
They could have run Pilot noon--2 pm, and 3-9 for WEC Things would have chilled out by midnight (14 hours of sun and drinking) and everyone could get six or eight hours sleep.

Yeah. I mean, I may use common sense now, but if I was there.... My dad would have had to have it haha. I'd have been wanting to stay for as much as possible. At least they didn't do the whole start at midnight after the 12 hours plan....

Getting excited for this one. Pulling for a mazda/6 penske/31 axs/core auto group at the front and BMW and Porsche in gtlm. It's funny, I never used to pull for Porsche but have really become fans of the team from rock hill sc and the awesome sounding Porsches.
