Hehehe yes a bit of nostalgia.... driving the at the time latest works Mallock at Prescott. I knew Richard Mallock well and he needed an engine, I had no meetings scheduled for that weekend, so I lent him my Brian Hart developed A class all steel 1700cc Ford pushrod engine (out of an ex Creighton Brown Phantom clubmans car I had bought) for him to do a circuit race in the car. The payback was I would use the car (with my engine) at Prescott the following week. Never driven the car before and it rained just as I was going on track on slicks for my first practice! I was a bit of a get in and drive person then, no setups etc and as I sat in the paddock waiting to go out with no time to change to wets Richard and Arthur Mallock were fussing around changing roll bar settings as I was being called to the line. But I didnt bend it and ended up with some silver to polish.
I also got to run an event shared with Richard in his historic FF Mk 9 Mallock, (Not my engine!) at Snetterton. Again it was damp!

Sorry, Mike! Was hesitating between DAF and Skoda. The last one may be…Can you tell us more about it, please?
Mind you that when you're one day off the forum, you can lose several pages of interesting things!

Gone to part time Gerard?

Serious lack of commitment!

Engines were many and varied across the model years but for Mike's car you need to go somewhat south from its current location and any relatively local suppliers - although not as far south as some, perhaps less historic owners, headed.

Gerard, the Sponsor was Kavalier Simax (google them), and they specialise(d) in kitchen and laboratory glassware. So, which country is famous in Europe for glass? After you’ve got the answer to that, search for race car manufacturers that were based in that country......

OK, lets go step by step. Quite interesting. Simax leads to CZ, Tchéquie in French, Czech. As to glass, Saint Gobain apart, Bohemian glass gives again CZ.
Chkoda also said Skoda? With a BDG? Your car is a Skoda chassis???

Cant be a Tatra, both Tatraplan Sports T 602 were written off. So my bet is: SKODA.

No, there were more than just Skoda. The answer is listed in wiki CZ car manufacturers under ‘other manufacturers’. The company also built Formula Easter single seaters.....

And it’s not a BDG engine, but it is 2L.

MTX ? Front wings suggest MTX but the rear wing and air scoops…*Could it be a FIAT engine?

Been away for a few ddays and looking back I have missed some nice shots and questions, thinkI have to correct Stuart with the Cosy though, sure it is a COUSY. Mikes Spider seems to be causing some interest here as well.

Yippee! As Grant suggest, Racing Sports Cars.com...…..

https://www.racingsportscars.com/cha...-01__0203.html

That's the results for chassis 0203, and you'll see various engines and bodywork. The avatar pic is of the car at an Interserie race in Germany in 1977. It was quite something for a car at that time to compete outside the Iron Curtain. At present the car bodywork is back to the 'wingless' style, but ambition is to get it back into Interserie spec. It has an M10 on Webers and early Hewland box.

Fascinating! Really. How is it to drive? M1O on Web's must be equivalent to a Chevron B8 I guess.
Having been through the Iron Curtain, it will be a piece of cake to travel with it after Brexit!

Here’s the avatar pic a bit more viewable! As RBS says, it was know as an ‘MTX Spider’, and three were built for a domestic series with 1600cc engines and Skoda gearbox. This car was later re-engined with a BMW M10, and raced inside the Iron Curtain with some good results. Miran Velkoborsky then developed the car further and ventured into Germany in 1977. After his ownership the car was fitted with a 1300cc engine to fit the then current domestic series. MTX (short for Metalex) then built a more sophisticated car for that 1300cc series, the 2-03 model, and an sales advert for one of those first drew me to MTX!

All the info is on Racing Sports Cars website....

Although in Czech, this potted history of Metalex/MTX shows the variety of cars they produced- from Skoda Favorit convertible to Tatra V8 engined beast! The Skoda based Rally car is interesting. As an aside, when I was negotiating buying the Spider, the offer of a genuine Gp2 Skoda 130RS race car came up as well. Sadly couldn’t stretch to that as well......

Mike I saw a Grp2 130 RS can go for more than 80 k€…*Because you like the rare prototypes may be one day you could consider a ARC MF, the first models had Simca 1300 engines and the later had an Alfa 1500 boxer like the MF 16. Nice little machines…

You mean one of these? Looks tiny! http://autovitesse.blogspot.com/2016/06/arc-mf16.html

Yes 130RS values now way above what I could have purchased the car offered for. I don’t know if there are any (homologation) road examples still around, one of those would be very cool....

Nice. She didn't seem too impressed (quite rightly) with the driver of the blue and white Capri at the start of the clip. Even the slight off later on didn't inhibit her enthusiasm.

If anyone wants to get their own back on Will and comment on his driving, I'm giving him a run out on one of my karts on Saturday week (7th December) at a Camberley Kart Club test day. I'm sure he'd appreciate the support if you can come along

I'll make sure I put the Go Pro on and publish the results.
