Cammish was penalised for contact and subsequently for overtaking under a yellow flag when WSR protested about the order of the cars across the line, but the penalty did nothing to give the place back.

RS67 seems to have his facts completely wrong.

With a two point difference when the fat lady sang, that had a big impact on the championship.... as did every other small difference over the year.

1.2.1 The following had Championship penalties applied to them after incidents:

Round 26: Rory Butcher (Q 14.4.4) – Fined £500, licence endorsed (3 penalty points)
Dan Cammish (Q 14.4.4) – Fined £1,500, licence endorsed (3 penalty points)

1.2.4 Following a protest from Team BMW, and subsequent investigation, the BTCC Clerk fined Halfords Yuasa Racing £1,000 for contravening General Regulation A 10.1.5. The penalty is suspended until the end of the year.

1.2.5 Following an appeal brought by BMW Pirtek Racing, the BTCC Stewards gave Dan Cammish a verbal warning for contravention of General Regulation Q 15.1.(e) for an incident in Round 26. The appeal fee was returned.

Cammish was advised by the team that he had crossed the line in front of Jordan. As the stewards were slow to give out that information, the team would only know who had got the position from the timing screens in the garage and on the pit wall. Perhaps the timing screens screwed up initially like they did Sunday when they briefly showed Chilton having finished 4th when he had finished 3rd.

Perhaps, but the fact remains that the team were wrong. And then one or two behaved badly on the pit wall which got them a team penalty.

I still think swift intervention by race control would have saved a lot of bother, but in the absence of that Dynamics were in the wrong. As far as I know race control did not advise of positions during the race, mores the pity
