Oh, it isn't that. They are going to explain the penalties. While I would have loved to hear the explanation over Bourdais recent penalty I would prefer they just made better decisions in the first place.

The FIA have got giddy over transparency. Whereas they should just be concentrating on being better at running the sport, specifically in this case better at running F1.

It is better, but not by a lot. They released the videos after the Bourdais incident. It didn't make the decision any better. They are coming at this the wrong way, but hey its transparent, that means it must be right, doesn't it?

Transparency doesn't equal credibility. They are not synonyms for each other.

The quest for transparency may just be a quest for self justification, in which case it will prove to be totally ineffective at reigning in criticism for bad or poor decision making.

They would be better publicly stating a set of basic principles (not rules) underlying all decion making and then adhering to it and explaining the decisions under the principles.
But that would mean they actually had to obey their own rules and previous policies, something they didn't do this year and gave rise to the criticism.

It would also mean they wouldn't be able to manipulate the championship to carry the result down to the final race as has been the case for the last two years.... or am I just being too cynical?

I see that Roebuck tackles this topic in this month's Motorsport (written before this announcement). They should be right and then they should be transparent.
