thunderbolt should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
http://www.teampenske.com/news/index..._Season_Review
so for a team that run 5 Ford Mustang cars it sounds like there may not be any new ford on the grid in 2019
Over the course of the season, crew chief Greg Erwin and the No. 22 Ford Mustang team prepared race-winning cars for five different drivers. While that might sound simple, matching driving styles and setup preferences successfully with multiple drivers was no easy process.

The thing that doesn’t really work in Mr Penske’s discussion is swapping brands needs a commitment NOW not in 6 months.

He is quoted elsewhere in saying Mustang needed sign off NOW or it cant happen

Same applies for another brand, surely.

Unless Penske is talking to Holden....

https://www.carsguide.com.au/car-new...cars-mix-54245

Not so fast...

Bathurst is said to be the debut of the MARC Ver.2.0. We don't yet know what this entails...

LOL, I didn't understand your implication when you mentioned changing a "hot hatch to a sporty coupe" you also meant changes to a standardised platform underneath.

And you knew all this prior to Speedcafe's story I assume? Apologies, my mistake [/sarcasm]

you have to wonder about 2020 and what happens with supercars

Lots of events signed up, one more year of media package, but no cars currently signed up for 2020 (might be able to drag out commodore, but falcon and nissan unlikely)

Will be interesting to see what happens

I recall PRA commenting that using the FG-X in season 2020 is still a viable option, as far as the previous model was used for that many seasons

think that might have been 2019 (but open to correction) I havent seen anything letting it go that far, but its just a rule change

But car will be 4 years out of date by then

Even if it did, thats just postponing the inevitable, something has to happen

Not from PRA but I found this.
More confirming what is allowed rather than a teams plan though

In fact, Falcons could continue in Supercars until well after final stocks are cleared from dealers next year, as the FG X remains eligible until Gen2’s scheduled expiration at the end of 2020.

Treading water is a good comparison, I feel like Supercars are waiting for teams to announce new models or even marques, while the teams are waiting for Supercars to announce changes to make the series more attractive to manufacturers. And we all sit around treading water, as 2019 rapidly approaches...

I am doubtfull that there is anything thy can do to make it attractive to manufacturers

Manufacturers are moving away from this style car, They are all investing heavily in Electric, Australian manufacturing of cars has gone. Australian are buying other types of cars. SUV's, 4wd "utes" etc

The fans still seem to want this type of racing, but the maufacturers dont as it does not represent what they are selling. Maybe similar to MARC is the answer. V8 corollas, i30s,3s ceratos etcs

My problem is that with the Mustang creeping up to $350k, I do not know if this kind of cost is sustainable in this new world of no manufacturer support.

I do like the MARC philosophy but the cost is really right up there.

The numbers being quoted (for the mustang, not the focus/Mazda3) suggested they were about half 250K cheaper than a supercar and about half a GT3 (or more) while not being too far of their pace

Similar to a gT4 and a bit more than a TCR, however a fair bit quicker than both of those

It puts it or similar in a good position, especially as supercars already have a chassis. (and the current motors)

Then you run into licencing problems with the cars if the manufacturers aren't interested but you want V8 Corolla's or i30s on a generic control platform

As you can see with the MARC II V8, it will have a Mustang style body, but won't be called a Ford Mustang

Murky ground, manufacturer could easily put a stop to it if they wanted to.
