[DTM] Race 9 - Barcelona (ESP), 21 September 2008

Time for the ninth round of the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters. Who will get out on top? Will Scheider close in on his first ever title, or will Green, di Resta or Ekström make his life difficult?

Don't forget to enter your predictions for the race, things are getting close in that championship as well:

TK is flying!

However he admits to be in his usual role, testing out aggressive setups for Eki and Scheider tomorrow. He will also act as wingman for these two..

Rumour has it in the paddock at Catalunya, that Bernd Schneider will retire. It should be confirmed this weekend, people think.

I know it sounds like groundhog day, but it should be a firm rumour.

This was also extensively talked about during ARD coverage of qualifying. I found it rather tasteless to present as an absolute certainty that this is Schneider's "third-last DTM race", while at the same time acknowledging that it was only rumours.

Anyway, I am very happy about Schneider's pole because it shows that "older" people can still be fast!

Albers qualified 12th in the 06 audi! Great job by him, as this was going to be the race where their car would not suit this curcuit.

It was a very interesting qualification! The tyres was the main question. Pilots said different sets of tyres put cars into different conditions.

Not a bad race, but nothing else. I've seen more terrible races. Green and Eki rermembered us, that it is tourenwagen racing, not open-wheels.
Ralf is a good boy - 7th place and nothing else))

And they were awarded with penalities.

I agree, I have the highest regard for Mr DTM, and was very happy with his pole. Bernd and Tom can still teach the youngsters a few tricks..

But that does not change the fact, that the rumour is there.

Must say that I find the penalties vs both Ekström and Green to be way too harsh. While the first bump could be debatable for who was the most guilty party and if either of them should get a penalty, what happened later was nothing but Ekies heavily damaged car simply not responding to steering input and catching Green out as he tried to repass.

What's next? If you get a flat tire and ram into a barrier, will your get a points deduction?!? I understand that they might be a bit extra touchy since what happened last year in Barcelona, but those penalties where uncalled for since there was no malicious intent from either driver.
