The other big club, sanctioning body and organiser, the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA) were also foundeed in the late '70s and (correct me if I'm wrong Cliff R ) used to concentrate on the West Coast and central US. Seems in the last few years they have expanded their coverage of the countries circuits. The SCCA / Sportscar Club of America tend to run the modern pro race series but do also organise club racing, as well as Rallying, Autocross (autotest in old English) and time trials. Nothing specifically historic, though. Pretty sure from memory there was a time when HSR and SVRA car technical /eligibility regulations were different, and of course there was no FiA involved..... |

SCCA in the last few years have had there annual Runoffs which is the culmination of the year. They've raced at amongst others recently Indianapolis, Daytona and Sonoma which is pretty decent.
Can't get everything spot on Mike . |

So captain Ron of Masters fame is doing his stuff in States.
Where does he fit into this puzzle? He’s a class act and note that he is one of the few people who instigate new ideas for historic racing. |

Pretty spot on Mike as far as I know. I think there’s also another body that runs the Monterey Historic’s and other West Coast events. There are still questions over whether East Coast cars are eligible for West Coast events and vice versa, which Tony Parella’s SVRA has been resolving.
There is no unified sanctioning body in the US but they do generally accept FIA licences etc The main thing with racing in the US is that the distances are huge, local tracks are often 4 hours away, no one can believe that I have 8 circuits within a 2 hour drive. Not sure how Captain Ron sails in the US, I think he probably buys grids from the above bodies. HTH |

Thanks Cliff! Looking at Masters 2919 US programme of events, 3 (east and Canada) were HSR meetings. I guess Monterey is independent, as would be the COTA American GP support race. They also raced at Sonoma Speed Week and Road America, but don’t know who runs their meetings without checking. And as it’s Sunday eve, I’m not spending any time looking!
