Pizzonia’s seat is NOT in jeopardy

From Autosport.com

"I don't know where these stories emerge from, there is no truth in it,” said a Jaguar spokesperson. "Pizzonia has only done three races, has had mechanical problems which have limited his running which on one occasion stopped him from qualifying.

"He did a huge amount of testing for Williams last year and was as quick as the team's regular drivers. I think everyone in F1 has a fair idea how quick he is.”

Pizzonia's team-mate Webber is also convinced that the Brazilian has what it takes to succeed in F1: “He is still very fast but we just have to get it out of him. Racing is very different from testing and he is coping with it the best he can. I am sure he will be alright."

I remember something similar about Burti at Jaguar.

After 3 races there was talk of de-la rosa, Jaguar spokesperson "Burti is safe"

Yup, he's doomed. Massa better blow the dust off his resume. Enge too. Another other likely replacements you guys can suggest?

I thought Burti quit Jaguar when the seat opened up @ Prost, rather than actually being fired by Jaguar. PDLR had been hired as a test driver with a more-or-less guaranteed seat the following season.

Old Eddie might make a come back, quite how he would handle being blown off by Webber would make for interesting viewing

I also think its a little premature to give him the kiss of death. There are about 15 drivers that have under-performed so far, why single Pizzonia out?

I'm not a fan, nor have I been impressed to date. But give the kid a chance. He's only had 3 races in a new format his team has'nt even come to terms with.

Also, a good team mate can also make things look worse than they are. Is it Pizzonia doing poorly, or Webber doing well that is making the gap look so big?

Take a look at qualifying, and pizzonia's gone close. He just needs to hit a groove on race weekend.

Maybe when he's in the Euro section on tracks he's tested on, he'll improve?

If Autosport is talking about it, unless things change, its the kiss of death for Pizzonia...

Bring back Alex Yoong!

No rumour can be considered trus until officially denied! I'd say he's got two races more...
Don't forget he was signed up by Lauda - Jag's yesterday man...

Eddie will never be back at Jag, apparently the team has changed beyond compare with that which ran Eddie, qualifying in Brazil showed that. If Eddie had been there he would doubtless be amongst the whingers and whiners asking for qualifying to be cancelled etc.
Webber is a revalation, a real charger, lets hope he can get some finishes under his belt and rack up some points. He deserves 10 for that save alone! Awesome

Some sources say that Wilson is going to replace him... but it's still very early days for Antonio. Yoong's got a full-time CART ride now, so he won't be doing F1 for a while.

Imho, since Pizzonia is just a rookie, Jaguar is simply looking for improvement -- in terms of qualifying, lap times and finishing -- rather than results at this point in time -- especially @ tracks that he's never been to. While a few DNF's probably don't jeaporize his future yet, DNQ's would be another story.

My observation of Pizzonia in lower formulas was that he was only any good if he had a good car.
The teammate is always the best guide to how a drivers doing (unless hes average too of course!)

Bye Bye Pizz...next driver please!

A denial by a team is the kiss of death more than anything else - except the Murray-factor. He mentioned the reliability was holding up, the engine blew - dead cert.

I've never been able to come up with a valid reason for Massa's absence from F1 except that he showed Peter Sauber where to put his team orders. Felipe is clearly as good as many of the newcomers and quite possibly a future star if not a WC. I hope Lee is right and we see more of Massa. Antonio Pizzonia is, at least for the time being and in the light of the available evidence, totally out of his depth.

Bring Felipe back to F1 !!

I can't believe those that quote team members saying he is definitely safe or stupid journalists insisting he's a gonner.IF jag get sick of him he will go.Simple as that

But they WILL say everything is rosey until then.
Such are the stupid political lies of f1

Well plenty of you have written him off as a dud, completely useless, out of his depth after three races. This is ludicrous!

For the first three years of his career, I thought Michel Jourdain Jr was rubbish. And he's just taken pole at Long Beach.

In light of his abysmal first three outings I think its worth remembering the amusing fact that 'Pizza' also stuffed a Jag road car- avec journalist - during winter testing. He is a legacy of Lauda's old administration and, rightly or wrongly, obviously about to be sacked.

Imola could be his last race. A poor showing this weekend could seal his F1 fate. If he is to appease the management, he needs to not only get on terms with Webber, but to also bring the car home, after nothing less than an impressive demonstration of what a real F1 driver should be able to deliver...

For whatever reason, Pizzonia could turn into another Jan Magnussen, and on his previous career, the Dane should have done well in F1. Is the Brazilian from the same mould?
