Could Hayden have won?
He was challenging Rossi for 2nd place but then fell off. Does anyone think he had the pace to win if he had stayed on? It was certainly his best chance of a win this year anyway. Ah well, I'm sure he'll get that first win very soon.

He wasn't really challenging Gibernau, let alone Rossi, and he was under massive rpessure from Capirossi. So no, I think he'd've been lucky to stay on the podium. Still, it was another promising showing, typical fo his late-season form. With Vale gone, who knows what he can do in 2004? It certainly now looks like he was the right choice for the second bike

He missed a possible podium, but Rossi and Gibernau were too quick on the day for everyone.

I agree w/ Boots and F1man. He fell too early to tell how he would have settled in, but it looked like he had his hands full just trying to hold off Capirossi, let alone pass for position.

The special paint job was for a competition (forget who ran it - Repsol?) and Vale was one of the judges. I can't really see Nicky carrying that off, though. He can ride OK, but show off to the same extent as The Doctor - heaven forbid

Hayden has much to learn. His first win is far away. A promising talent though with a lot of growing up to do.

He now has a full years experience behind him, and really his first win should come in 2004. |

Nicky's come on strong throughout the year. I was wondering why they chose him at the start of the year and I think with another year under his belt he'll be able to consistently challenge at the front. Next year he'll likely be at or near the front but not all of the time - but that comes with experience for most.
