Is Aston Martin Racing considered to be "factory supported"
I know Prodrive built and developed the cars. But can they be considered a factory supported team?

Well for starters you might want to check out who owns the Aston Martin Racing website
AMR is Aston's factory team, Prodrive have a contract to represent Aston Martin in sportscar racing |

They have a works team (the Gulf Prodrive cars) and a couple of semi-works teams like AMR BMS Scuderia (running DBR9s in FIA-GT) and AMR Drayson-Barwell (running a V8 Vantage GT2 in ALMS (and maybe LMS)).
There was another DBR9 team, Larbre which ran in the LMS. |

From Wikipedia:
"On 12 March 2007 a consortium led by Prodrive chairman David Richards purchased Aston Martin for £475m/USD$848m.[15] Prodrive has no financial involvement in the deal.[16] Ford will keep a stake in the company (valued at GBP 40 million / USD 70 million). The consortium also consisted of John Sinders, an Aston Martin collector; and two Kuwaiti investment companies, Investment Dar and Adeem Investment Co." Does this helps? |

Initially Prodrive recieved technical help and shells etc. from Ford controlled Aston Martin, but they made their money from a customer program. Maybe thats still the case, or the new, independent, Aston Martin now fund the factory team. It was stated at the NEC, I believe, that Aston Martin see's motorsport as a great marketing tool to promote the brand, much like Porsche and Audi. |

By the way, that applies to BOTH Gulf Oil entities, unrelated to each other, except for the "look." |
