It’d look great in the dark. Different color for each class?

Been thinking about those Premium kits and there is one change that I actually would like to see: full widebody kits. I doubt it would be €50k, but I always preferred full length widebodies over cars that have just wider fenders.

Unfortunately, most GT rulesets have only allowed for the latter for the last few decades, so I've got to use an older example:

Kremer Porsche 935K4 (Euro-Version, only wide fenders): https://images.app.goo.gl/1VnDWLXuJDV4kQ28A

Kremer Porsche 935 (IMSA-version, full length widebody): https://images.app.goo.gl/eof1KBGW6uQa121ZA

I still don't think that it makes economic sense, but from an aesthetic point of view, I'd actually like to see something like this on today's GT3s.

John is picking it back up now in the discussion.

In the DSC notes on the ACO Press Conference from the week said this:

Quote:
GTE Pro and GTE Am cars will be retired at the end of 2022 and 2023 respectively. A brand new category inspired from the GT3 class will be introduced in 2024. The name of the class is not locked yet. These cars will be run by privateers only. Hypercar manufacturers will be allowed to sell their GT3 cars.
So that wording doesn't really answer our question because it doesn't indicate exclusivity, just says that they will be allowed, not that others will be disallowed.

Toyota (if they have one)
Lambo (2024)

What they need to do to get to the bottom of this is ask the ACO?

The final speculation on RLM was these regulations were meant to be difficult and unpopular so they can get rid of GT class, or at least reduce the numbers so there can be more prototypes on the grid.

Now Dagys tweets in that Richard Mille told him all GT3 makes that add on the "premium" kit will be allowed.

I think the ACO, if they wanted to, could just ditch it. But they know they need the GT classes. Yes maybe next couple of year they'll have so many Hypers and LMP2s, but that might not last.

I'm not convinced the add ons are that important. They will be relatively cheap. I suspect won't need much developing (BoP will win) and are cost capped so it will be affordable and not a difference maker for anyone who wants to race at Le Mans. Still be cheaper than GTE. I think I read it will be $50-$100k? People are investing in GTE at the moment and it is a dead category and more than 50-100k premium over GT3.

Anyway, long way to go before we see a car. This all could develop. Both our understanding and the actual situation.

I'm not a great fan, but not feeling it is awful either.

BoP for Le Mans is fraught at the best of times, given how disproportionate acceleration/top speed are for good lap times. The premium kit could be the ACO's way to BoP specifically for Le Mans, while following different BoP tables for other races.

ACO on site premium kit construction for BoP? Bring your car and they'll break out the gaffer tape and construction paper to build or take speed as needed?

I know it's a stretch, I was thinking of anything to justify the extra expense. But if they go through with it, which manufacturers are likely to bow out because of it?

That's my biggest thought, Porsche has already publicly questioned why and they're likely to sell the most cars. Ferrari has a new car so they could amortize that cost in it overall. But it feels to me like an idea that will slowly evolve to allowing aero tweaks in the BoP

I thought the hypercar requirement was gone. So they really want to force manufacturers into that hyper thing.

I believe the Hypercar requirement is indeed gone.

This GT3 Pro idea is ridiculous though. DTM considered it, and everyone laughed. And since it'll be Pro-Am, you're basically asking non-factory teams to buy expensive upgrades from manufacturers.

Leave it as GT3. Have a Pro and Pro-Am class (we already see factory backed entries elsewhere, might as well allow them at Le Mans).

It's good to see everyone except the ACO thinks GT3 Premium, or whatever it's called, is a terrible idea.

On the issue of a Pro class, did the ACO not say they would consider one if at least two manufacturers committed at least four cars? Maybe that just hasn't happened. GTE Pro drivers have certainly expressed their disappointment but the manufactures and works teams haven't said anything.
If Ferrari, Porsche, Aston, Lamborghini, BMW etc insisted it was what they wanted that is what we would have.

I think we had some signals crossed but I believe the ACO was mentioning the pro class in relation to GTE next season, and they would have kept it if the manufacturers were interested. They weren't.
