Red Bull's Renault engines to change to another brand in the Renault family, apparently it's all over Twitter...

Not heard anything more than in those links.
Infiniti would make sense since they are only recent newcomers in European markets. |

Is it just me who thinks it's the wrong team who are changing the engine name? Think of the fun you could have with an Infiniti powered Renault chassis, sponsored by Lotus and Lada.

If they want to promote the brand Infiniti they should enter DTM and compete against the German premium brands. Being engine supplier will do not much for the brand.
The Andros Dacia is a great looking car () |

is it not a little bit late for this? red bull will have already have done all their corporate clothing, bull****boards, motorhomes and truck branding for this year already, to change the branding on these would cost many washers

BBC are reporting this story this evening. Apparently the engines will be free.
I wonder if this may pave the way for Kamui Kobayashi to become a Red Bull driver in 2012? Mark Webber probably won't stay, and none of the junior drivers are ready for a top line seat yet. |

Glad somebody other than a message board has reported this, seemed like some crazies on the original links claiming all kinds of things. If you want to introduce your cars to Europe there might not be a better way than to convince the casual fan it's something different in the back of the Red Bulls that might be leading the Ferraris and Mercedes engines in the field. Is Infiniti being introduced to Europe soon or is this just a push to get broader acceptance of the brand? Definitely did a good job of spreading the word in college towns here in the US, I used to see prob 50 or more variations of the G-series (G35 coupe being most common) at Virginia Tech and still see a decent number down here in Georgia.

Besides that obvious point I don't think you really understand the relationship between Red Bull and Renault. Why do you think they're giving the engines away to do this? Red Bull won the championship last year DESPITE their engines. Try to imagine how totally dominating they would have been if they'd had Mercedes engines. Red Bull don't want Renault engines, but they have no choice. Mercedes other customers won't let them sell to Red Bull, Ferrari don't offer an engine as good as their main teams unit and the others aren't worth looking at. So why would Red Bull Hire a Japanese driver just to please a company that is so desperate to keep them as a customer that they are giving their engine away? If Renault/Nissan asked Red Bull to hire a particular driver, Matta****z, Horner & Marko would just tell them to f*ck off |

So.. can Infiniti submit their 'new' 2011 engine to the FIA, with a raft of Mecachrome-inspired updates and steps... to bring the powerplant in line with the output of the Mercedes and Ferrari?
Could be a technical masterstroke? |

As a non-endemic name the Red Bull team is the obvious choice. No point re-badging the other Renault engined teams - too far back and they have other car manufacturer names on them (Lada, Renault, Lotus). They wouldn't want an Renault Infiniti or a Lotus Infiniti. Could this lead to possible future buy in? Cheaper than spending money if they were still involved in the Genii Renault team. |

F1 is the place to be, especially if Red Bull is going to be the team to beat this year again. Infinity being on their cars will have nothing but good side effects unless they fall flat and fail every race. Which is highly unlikely. This is news, good news though. perhaps Nissan will have more input in the sport. Maybe convincing Toyota and Honda to come back as at least engine suppliers in the future. Maybe badged as Acura and Lexus lol.
