Centurion Boats at the Glen - NEXTEL Cup
Anybody with more knowledge in NASCAR setup know anything about rain condition running in either Cup or Busch? Have heard rain could impact qualifying for both series.

Who of the road racers now has the points to make the field since it looks like a rain out of qualifying?

Qualifying rained out.
Race lineup No Cup race for Ambrose. I don't understand NASCAR. It's Friday afternoon and race is on Sunday, why not qualify on Saturday (or even Sunday morning) if regular qualifying rains out? |

Yeah, never understood why they line up championship order.
Although this is tinged with driver bias. |

No Boris, no Marcos - 2 of the better road racers no start - what a ridiculous rule not to just use practice times or reschedule.

It's a shame really, you'd think the spectacle of NASCAR on a road course plus wet weather racing would be too much of a good thing NOT to pass up.
But as others have said, use practise times. I guess there is some history and/or politics to the sport some of us getting into it more deeply now don't quite understand |

Wet qualifying would not really be an option as track conditions would change so much during the course of the 2hrs or so the process takes. Remember all those skewed grids when rain affected F1 qualifying in the single-lap format? Agree with those suggesting using practice times as being a fairer process - especially in the case of a road course where specialists aren't certain to qualify.
Disappointed both for Ambrose, who was comfortably inside the top 43 and not far off teammate R. Gordon in his first drive in the CoT, and the championship-points grid doesn't help JPM much either - P18 is alright on paper (compared to P32 at Sonoma!), but with all the quick guys ahead of him at the sharp end it probably is just as big a challenge as Sonoma was. |

JPM will be able to use one of the 6 FCY for debris to get to the front - after all it's a fuel mileage race

Saw an interveiw with Boris Said on Nascar.com just then, he's not happy as you would understand, he wants qualifying on Saturday.
They could even drop the Sat practice session if need be, the cars are adjusted so much during the race that the practice is really only to sort out shock/spring rates and generally 'practice'. |

Justs shows how much NASSSSSSSSSSCAR Quali' sucks, when they can't even deal with rain on a road course. The whole thing about it having to take two hours is bull. F1 and V8SC have the right idea. It works a the fans love it.
God show from Marcus, close to Robby, first time in the car, first time at the track. Boris is right about everything he said in the interview. |
