Remember the Super Touring days, when a long-term deal was inked, that the incumbant management couldn't get out of?

Since when?

I'm going to call it now, in NRL talk the wise old heads always say you have to lose one to win one (which Cronulla proved wrong) but never the less, Scotty Mc to win 2018

Yeah I wonder how much they had to offer Brighty to get him to release the contract.

Although hard to put a tangible number on it, but if Stanaway is the next big thing to go on and win a few championships, rake in a massive sponsor etc etc, what would be the lost $$ if he did that at another team? Might be worth the hit to the backpocket now....

Totally agree. If Jason thought he was anything but a conduit for the MEGA money, then he was kidding himself.

Stanaway's good, but so is SM... if Penske get back to being fastest like they were for half of 2017 I don't see anyone beating him. Imagine if he sorts his mistakes and rubbish starts out. Meanwhile if T8 are fastest next year, JW will be hard to beat esp if he's just as focused and SVG quick if they sort out the car to his liking at every race.

Stanaway will have a lot of tracks to learn and Mostert is no slouch with the way he's handled Winterbottom this year. Could be years before Stanaway could win a title.

Mostert showed his immaturity behind the wheel at Newcastle. Cracked under pressure and made some very novice mistakes. Frustration also was a factor when he ran out of talent and spun Silvestro... all basic mistakes. Meanwhile Whincup just drove his own race.
He deserved the win.
