Bill is "all bark and no bite"; ie a big softy who is fantastic in looking after me.

No matter what, he at least will be around this year - so I expect you all to look after him for me if I am not out and about.

Just to let you know that the scans came back clear

Operation is planned for 19th March and they now don't even reckon I'll need any more chemotherapy

So the best news possible in the circumstances.

You may now uncross whatever it was that you had crossed for me for luck.

And the timing fits in with letting Bill out to play at Oulton Park at Easter!

Thanks again for all the good thoughts and wishes.

Can't say how pleased Laura and I are with the outcome. There'll be a bottle cracked open this evening and a quiet toast.

Shelagh, are you and Bill planning to come to CotA for the WEC race? If so, I may see you there and be able to offer my congratulations in person.

One day at a time!

I have a house to get sorted (as in dusting and hoovering - yeuck) prior to operation, and then we'll see how things go.

Another holiday sounds like a d****d fine idea, though..........

No, I don't think you're sufficiently well yet to take the cleaning back from Bill...

Seriously, thrilled to hear your good news. Catch you somewhere, soon.

Bill don't do cleaning but is a washing up star - saves my "dishpan hands"!

And I hate cleaning too, so we live in a tip!

All will change as I might have my Mum to visit around operation time, so that shiny, gleamy place on Google will be our house!

Pre-op assessment successfully completed yesterday. I'm healthier than I think!

BMI was spot on (despite that worrying middle age spread I've noticed); heart strong and even lungs clear (Bill is doing better than me at cutting down on the fags).

And all this at Stafford Hospital which, despite what you have read in the news, is actually a very good place to go to at the moment.

They have suggested that I don't need to stay overnight if I recover OK - but I'll have a drain fitted and so both Bill & I have decided to become "huge wusses" (I don't need to act) because I would prefer to stay in at least for the first night - if only to have painkilling stuff on tap!!!!

Love to you all and thank you again for all your support, good wishes, etc..... As said before and elsewhere: this is a big family and we do really look out for each other.

xxxxx

Shelagh,
As you know, Lisa had a mastectomy 2 years ago. Definitely recommend staying the night in hospital - purely for (As You Say) pain management and just to get used to the drain (Which reminds me of those baseball caps with drinks canisters attached). The drain would normally stay in situ for at least a couple of days (Everyone is Different) or until the excess fluid has gone. You *Should* have a community nurse come to visit to check you over and also remove the drain when ready.

Best of luck - PM if you need to know anything else (Lisa will chat to you).
We're both thinking of you x

Thank you, Mark (& Lisa).

I was surprised when told I might be out same day - not what I'd been told at the clinic, which was it would be an overnight stay at least. There will be a bed for me so I will make use of it, plus any morphine or other drugs to hand!

I also have the sexy socks for DVT prevention!

Still not sure about Easter. Bill will definitely be at Oulton. I'll see how it is going.

Got to be at the hospital for 7.30am on Tuesday, 19th March. Grrr - I don't do mornings! Please keep your fingers crossed and send me all good wishes. I'm not looking forward to this - except maybe the morphine!!!
