"it's a tough and emotional time but Allan is safe, well and happy. "

I did take the positives out of your post, in what James told you about Allan being happy where he is.

What made a few people a bit teary eyed was when he passed the convertible with Mostert and James sitting on top, Allan mouthed "I love you" when he saw his son

Interesting to see Allan in the small video for Tickford celebrating his Coke Mustang and the tribute livery the current Mustang has with his son co-driving it.

Al Pal turns 80 on the Sunday of the Sandown meeting.
Here’s hoping it is commemorated properly

Do they ever celebrate other old drivers birthdays?

Not as if Moffat has ever had anything to do with Supercars either?

Raises the same point, how can you be inducted into the hall of fame for something you didn’t have anything to do with?

What if I told you if it were not for Allan Moffat there would likely have never been Supercars?

Touring car racing existed in Australia before Cochrane arrived on the scene believe it or not.The heritage of Supercars goes back to before that corporate entity was formed.

Moffat was a key member of the committee that developed the Group 3A rules.

The other 1999 inductees was well known Supercar drivers Geoghegan, Beechey and Jane.

The criteria refers to Australian Touring Car racing and Supercars.

Even before the 3A rules, Moffat was the one that went to the first negotiation on behalf of what would become TEGA.

Larry Perkins tells the story on Enforcer and the Dude.

Moff went to negotiate on behalf of the whole field and when the promoter called his bluff on all the cars not appearing, Moff opened his briefcase to reveal the log book of every car.

Deal was done, and that moment was the beginning of the strength in numbers and unity that would lead ultimately to the teams recruiting Tony Cochrane.

So why is it not called the “Australian Touring Car” hall of fame then?

Moffat (or Beechey or Jane as mentioned earlier) did not compete in “Supercars” or “V8Supercars”, so why induct them into something with that branding? Supercars did not exist when they competed

I’m pretty sure Moff wasn’t inducted into the hall of fame on the back of being at the forefront of TEG, then TCI and later TEGA

That kind of thinking is what leads to revisionist history

Was Robbie Francevic the 1986 Supercars Championship winner now?

If you think it should be changed, drop Supercars a line; it's not going to change as a result of this discussion.

Did Louis Armstrong ever sign Rock 'n' Roll?

But he is in the Rock n Roll hall of fame.

Surely those responsible for creating a "hall of fame" can set the rules?

Surely it cheapens any "hall of fame" if you are inducting people who had nothing to do with you into your hall of fame?

Manufacturing your history rather than creating it. Why can't Supercars be proud of their own heroes they created?

It's widely accepted that the ATCC evolved into what we have today. The Supercars champion is awarded the ATCC trophy.

So why don’t they use the ATCC name? They obviously felt no pride or had no need in the name after 1998, so why try and hang off it in 2019?

Instead Supercars market their brand, award the “Supercars Championship trophy” with little to no attention paid to the awarding of any ATCC presentation, yet lean on ATCC stats for supposed heritage.

Supercars decided to do their own things their own way from 1997 with little regard for things beforehand. Surely Supercars as an organisation should be proud of its own achievements and the stars it has created itself? Why in 2019 are we not celebrating the 23rd Supercars Champion? (And the 23rd Supercars 1000 winners while we are at it?)
Why link yourselves to history the organisation obviously wasn’t interested in continuing and wanted to do their own way?
