Ooh - listen to the silence from the Button-bashers. To paraphrase the football chant - You're not singing anymore. Fab drive, just great. Superb battle with Trulli (largely ignored or missed by the commentators) and great steel in the closing stint, matching pace with Kimi and Rubens to bring the car home.

Firt of many - you bet.

BTW, just to gloat a little more (!) if any of the Button doubters had done as I did and put their money in the right place they'd be £70 better off as I am - 7-1 odds for a podium finish. Lovely.

What also impresses me is his reaction in the press conference.

Rennen made the point in another thread about his self assurance after coming from a childhood of karting etc. That being so his response to the question about his podium may well be because of that.

The first thing he wanted to do was go celebrate with the team.

Well done Jens. Top bloke, top driver and now BAR are a top team! Well done to David Richards for getting that team in order and getting the best out of the great talent that is JB, his dad had every right to be very proud.

I take profit of thisd thread to celebrate the stunning performance of Jenson (which doesn't surprise me), to add just some spice.
As everybody know, BAR have switched from BS to Michelin last winter: how could/will this affect Jenson's 2004?

The team think the tyres are only worth an extra 1 second a lap, the rest has come from improvements to the car.

I was so nervous in the last 10 laps, even more so when Sato's engine blew, given his bad luck in Malaysia in the past 2 years.

But a great drive by Jenson!

I was nervous as well, but I'm delighted with how it finished.

The biggest improvement in performance comes from the switch to Michelins (although it may hurt them in wet races), the change in driver line-up seems to have helped as well (don't bash me for saying it), and the car is probably more inherently competitive.

It's fair to remember that they suffered with tyre degradation in Australia, so it's possible that, had the race been as hot as expected, they'd've faded away as it went on. In Europe they should be fine - Bahrain and Brazil might be tougher.

The biggest improvement has actually come from the car. The team reckon of the 3.5 seconds improvement on last year 1 second is tyres ane balance 2.5 seconds from improving the car.

Er. If you care to read through this thread you'll find that Stephen was invited to tour the factory last weekend.

A very good drive was done by JB though. Glad to see he finally received his first podium. Now for his first win........

This is about Jenson. There is no other current or ex BAR driver to discuss in this thread unless you count Sato San and Ant. Both of whom performed well in their respective roles.

I think to claim that this year's BAR was in part a legacy of JV's tenure is stretching things more than a little! Geoff Willis deserves the credit that he's due for revolutionising the engineering quality in that team, and DR has to get credit for being the man with the plan that made all that happen. Did Jaques ever even drive the concept car?

If Jenson has benefitted at all from Jaques it can only be by his giving him a stern test of character and mental toughness - a test which I have to say that he passed with flying colours.
