I'm surprised the field is lacking in entries considering the prize for the champion. Great tracks, great cars, some very competitive drivers...I would have thought entries would be picking up. Yet Star Mazda seems to be thriving...

Because of the 1.5 million dollar prize for the champion, perhaps?

Simona will be raising a few eyebrows then. Yes, it's her 3rd season in it, but she's beating some very established junior names there

She is the real deal....very impressive. Hit all of her marks on Sunday. She was quick last year as well, but it seems everything is coming together right now.

Mid Ohio this weekend as a support to the Indy Car Series - will be interesting to see the difference in lap times between the Atlantics & Indy Lights cars...

The car count is getting pretty sad - down to 9 or 10 real entries (not considering the C2 cars). I fear this is likely the last season of the Atlantic championships without a major series for the drivers to graduate to. Much like how the Champ Car DP01 was a superior machine to the IRL's Dallara, I firmly believe the Atlantic car is superior to the Indy Lights machines - I can't think of any notable drivers to have come out of the Indy Lights series (the rebadged IndyPro series that is - not the old CART Indy Lights series, which was actually a good formula). Even after the IRL started the IndyPro series, the teams still seemed to prefer to pick Atlantic drivers over IPS drivers. Now that several IRL teams have IPS teams as well, the incdentive to run in the IPS series is all about connections and trying to get "in" with an IRL team. That is the biggest problem Atlantic has - there is no series to get "in" with. And ALMS is suffering as well...

True, a point i made in the Indy Car series forum - instead of bringing back older proven drivers who are past there used by date, blood some Indy Lights drivers , F1 brings in young talent ala Jaime Alguersuari...
As for the ALMS, #'s are short, yet Grand Am has good fields , go figure... |

It should, means those 15/16/17 year olds would go to Skip Barber or Star Mazda - which, mind you, do have good #'s... Would be a shame though that such a "historically" speaking championship like Formula Atlantic ceased to exist!

The Indy Lights cars are made for ovals more than road courses, that's probably the reason for that gap.
Nethertheless, I like the Atlantic car much more than the FIL one as well, it will be a shame if the series dies out. |

I'll be going to Trois Rivieres in 1 weeks time for the most historic of the Atlantic races - dating back to Gilles Villeneuve wowing the crowd. It will be very sad if the field is as small as it has been the last two races. That event looks to be turning into a NASCAR event primarily - with Jacques Villeneuve, Andrew Ranger, Alex Tagliani and a former Montreal Canadien starting that race. All of those guys are Atlantic grads, except for the hockey player. |
