What was that The Hillman Imp Imp Challenge? :-) Must have been the car to have back then, that red one on the front row looks like the Roger Nathan car I once prepared for Liana Engleman, a rather tasty Dutch lady who managed to roll it on her first race and I think first lap at Lydden Hill, it was not totalled we just shoved it back on the trailer and I dropped it round Roger's house, I left shortly after so never did know if it got put back on the track.

Pre litigation racing Loved The starters rostrum which looked suspiciously like a milk crate The straw bales protecting the start line officials The lack of catch fencing The pit board - a broom handle attached to a blackboard People enjoying themselves Bottom bend before it was spoiled Must say though, that Brands looked very pikey compared with now. |

I'd say that was early 1976. The temporary straw bales, milk crate rostrum etc, in place because of the building work for the '76 GP. New pits, pit road, new inner paddock behind and re-aligned bottom straight as we have today.
Basil Dagge, John Homewood, Jeff Ward, Jeff Payne, Geoff Farmer..all quick in Imps in those days. |

Just asking really, was the Yellow Imp with the Bevan signwriting Simon Sables?? if it was, it was built on a Davrian floor pan, and we killed it on Mabbs bank.

The Imp you refer to as yellow car on Davrian floor pan is in fact the John Homewood car from 78/9
car was later sold to Sabel a FFord racer rob mason drove the car once at brands and said it was scary had no brakes! Terry Mitchell had the car after Sabel and crashed the car at Lydden in 81 or 2 |

I was with Terry when the car was totalled, and most of the car could have been put into a few Tescos bags without a problem,
From the film the rear of the car had air scoops , these were not fitted to We had George come out Retirement when we got the first Maguire. The Sable car when we got it which gave us no end of overheating probs compared to the 2 previous Maguire cars we had previously, Even with old tires the car was quick, and was a Lap record holder at Brands for ages if I remember rightly After the car was written off the engine was fitted into Front engined FWD Scirrocco special saloon, possibly a Mallock tub, that was so slow it may as well been going backwards. whoops double post. |
