John Travis interview

An excellent interview on the series official website.

For me the Ferrari car has proven that it is possible to have good, close racing with a good looking car (F1 technical working group please take note).

I also remember the fear before the season that the field would be spread due to the more complex car and higher speed. The speed difference with the old car turned out to be minimal anyway but it was good how the field was closer more than anything else, although that might be more explained by better driver quality that we are seeing at the back end of the field. OK some teams underperformed (e.g. South Africa, India), but that seemed more to do with budget constraints than anything to do with the car.

Will be interesting to see how much quicker lap times might be next season with different tyre compounds and a bit more development.

Said by me on May 29th:

"Kiwi, whenever official A1GP people talk about the series they always say they have 25 cars on the grid and have done since day one - seems they are stuck in 2005 "

John Travis: "Some of us thought we could have some major problems, especially when you have 25 cars, it’s not like you are running a two-car team, you are dealing with a full grid"

Told you so .

right, well done.

It's a bit silly really. There would be nothing wrong with an 18 car grid if all of them had some sort of serious backing.

Funny how they never anticipated rain to be able to mess up the car. It IS a winter series for crying out loud.

And I am quite sure they built 25 cars.... we have seen 22 teams in some sort of action (Pakistan never raced :P), and add to that the canada car, the flag car and the yellow prototype and you're there.

I thought it was a pretty good interview. Of course the guy's going to talk the car up because it's his baby, but some of his comments were very interesting and revealing.
